PTO Meeting - October 10th
When we were kids we did fire and tornado drills, but lockdown?
Schools today do a lot more as it relates to the safety and security of our children. Do you want to know more about the school district’s efforts in this area? Please join us at the PTO meeting on Thursday, October 10 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm where a member of the Safe and Secure Schools Committee will make a presentation on their recent and ongoing efforts within the district. The meeting will take place in the Media Center.
Babysitters will be available in the teacher’s lounge. Due to the nature of the material being discussed during the presentation and following Q&A, we ask that all children go to the teacher’s lounge.
Students of the Week (Week of 9/30)
SAVE THE DATE...Dance for Kindness
Hello Cincinnati!
SAVE THE DATE...Sunday, November 10th will be our Dance For Kindness this year.
The location and time TBA
I hope all of you had a fabulous year and are excited to be able to celebrate kindness with us again this year. Last year we danced with over 50 countries, 120 cities, and over 20,000 participants on 6 continents. It was an opportunity to show the world that Kindness can make a difference.
We invite everyone to bring a friend or neighbor this year. We would love to show the world how Cincinnati celebrates kindness.
Help us celebrate on Sunday, November 10th.
More information to come.

In Case You Missed It...
Did You Know?
We know you may have questions about Maple Dale. Did you know that a great resource for school information is our website? It is accessible anytime! From the Sycamore Community Schools Homepage, click on "OUR SCHOOLS" and choose "MAPLE DALE ELEMENTARY" from the drop-down menu. The green bar at the top lists various topics of interest (Our School, Students, & Parents) Of particular help may be the Student-Parent Handbook for answers to many questions.
We hope this provides a quick way to get the information you need. If not, we welcome your call to our school! We are here to help!
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES/ABSENCES
We understand changes in transportation happen, however, making many last minute changes puts a large strain on our front office admins. If you need to make a change, please make sure to send in a note or an email (lakek@sycamoreschools.org) BEFORE 3 pm to the office AND your student's teacher.
Click here for the Parent Communication Form.
LOST & FOUND
Thanks to our wonderful EA, Miss Pat, the Lost and Found is organized and many items are returned to the students IF there is a name on the item. If your child has lost an item of clothing, a lunch box, water bottle or the like, have him or her check the lost and found near the cafeteria. Items of significant value are kept in the office.
Please remember to label your child’s belongings…most importantly their jackets, lunch boxes, backpacks, and water bottles with his/her first and last name. These items tend to go missing from time to time and even though we encourage responsibility, having these items clearly labeled allows us to return them, when found.

Creativity - All Pro Dad Breakfast Maple Dale Elementary - Wed October 23rd
You are invited to the Maple Dale Elementary All Pro Dads breakfast on Wednesday October 23rd from 8-9am in the school cafeteria. This free monthly breakfast is sponsored by fathers, Chick-fil-A, and the PTO.
The meeting theme is creativity. Creativity is how we express ourselves and use our minds, gifts, and abilities to better our lives and our community. It allows us to address challenges and provide solutions. It’s important to nurture creativity in our children.
If attending please RSVP by noon on Monday October 21st via the link below so the correct amount of food is ordered.
https://allprodadsday.com/chapters/5004
Reminders- please do not walk your child to their classroom, please park down at the district offices to free parking spaces for staff members, and please be aware that a school delay or closure cancels the breakfast.
Chick-fil-A is continuing their sponsorship this year and it is at a reduced level as we are an established club entering our fourth year. The PTO has increased their sponsorship (thank you PTO!) and please consider making a donation to support an upcoming meeting. Checks can be made out to “Maple Dale PTO” with “All Pro Dads” in the memo line and given to Greg or Doug.

Reporting Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Incidence
In an ongoing effort to provide a safe learning environment, Sycamore is requesting parents, students, and staff to inform administration (or whoever) of any perceived incidences of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.
Per the Sycamore Board of Education policy JFCF, harassment, intimidation, and bullying are defined as any provoked and intentional written, verbal, electronic or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another particular student more than once and the behavior both:
causes mental or physical harm to the other student; and
is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for the other student.
To view the complete policy, visit www.sycamoreschools.org, under the Board of Education tab, scroll down to “Policies”, search for policy “JFCF”.
Sycamore will do everything possible to address any complaints of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. We encourage students, staff, parents, and community members to report this type of behavior to the district if help is needed to solve a problem.
To report an incident of harassment, intimidation, and bullying,
Go to the website, www.sycamoreschools.org under Academics, General Education, Parent Resources, Anti-Bullying
Scroll down until you see the Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Incident Reporting Form for the individual schools.
Fill the form on-line and submit it electronically.
Hard copies of this form are available in each of the schools.
Complete the hard copy of the report form and turn it into the building principal.
The building principal or designee will promptly investigate all reported incidences.
It is difficult to investigate reported incidences that are anonymously submitted. However, every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality of the reporter. Deliberate false reporting of harassment, intimidation, and bullying is prohibited.

#speakupAVES Mental Health Awareness Month
September launched our #speakupAVES campaign. Our commitment to supporting student, staff, and community mental health is strong. Our Sycamore High School students will honor their commitment to start the conversation and break down the stigma surrounding mental health on Saturday, October 5. Their team participation in the 1N5 Warrior Run as team SycamoresAVES has raised over $1000 to support mental health education in Sycamore Schools. There is still time to show your support by joining our team by registering HERE, or to sponsor the team HERE. As we said, our conversation is just getting started. We encourage you to follow us on twitter @speakupAVES to remain connected to our initiatives, activities, and information about mental health in our community.
The commitment to mental health and wellness is a national topic of conversation. Our city is engaged in that conversation and is bringing an event designed to support mental health and wellness to Cincinnati. On October 11-13 Kroger will sponsor the Wellness Your Way festival at the Duke Energy Center. For more information about this event, designed to kick-start your journey to a healthy lifestyle, click HERE.
