Tiger Tales Vol. 25

The latest news and updates from LGAE

Hi Tiger Families,

As you know, we will be reopening our school building in a hybrid model the week of April 12th for Grades PK-2nd and SDC and the week of April 19th for Grades 3-6. Taking this approach will allow the district to maximize social distancing and health and safety in our buildings. I am following up to provide you with more information on how this model will look moving forward.

To help reduce the number of students in our building at any given time, we will split our students into Group A and Group B. The chart below outlines which students will be assigned to each cohort, along with the days they will learn in-person and remotely:

Group A

1/2 of students

In-Person Learning Days

Monday & Tuesday

Remote Learning Days

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Group B

1/2 of students

In-Person Learning Days

Thursday & Friday

Remote Learning Days

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday

Students who live in the same household will be assigned to the same group. All students will learn remotely on Wednesdays, when our custodians will conduct a deep-clean of the building. Parents will be notified of their child’s schedule on March 25th.

In addition, we will offer a remote-only learning option for families who do not yet feel comfortable having their students return to school. Please complete this survey by March 14th to indicate your learning model preference for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

Please note that we are asking parents to make a commitment for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year and we may not be able to accommodate changes to parent preference. Also note that class and school site changes may be necessary to accommodate parent preference in distance learning, which means that your child may have a new teacher starting in April.

As we reopen our building, we will continue to take all actions necessary to protect the safety and health of our school community, including:

  • All students and staff will be asked to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. If they are feeling sick, they should stay home from school. If they are experiencing symptoms of the virus, they should consult a healthcare professional right away and notify the school office.

  • All students and staff members will be required to wear masks or face coverings.

  • We will space out desks in classrooms to provide at least six feet of distancing. We will also provide plexiglass shields and other personal protective equipment to reduce possible exposure in our buildings.

  • Students and staff will be frequently reminded about the importance of proper handwashing. No-touch hand sanitizer units will be available throughout our buildings.

  • To avoid large groups of students gathering in one place, we will adjust the way students move between classrooms and other spaces in our schools.

I know that returning to in-person learning may cause some anxiety. Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being as we make this transition.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through Class Dojo or at courtneyo@lemongrovesd.net

Sincerely,

Courtney Ochi
