The Huffman Commitment

We will work with every student, staff member, and family to develop and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning community. We are committed to continuously improving our professional practices and take responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student. We believe all people can grow in a positive direction.

Principal's Note

Dear Huffman Families,

School Health & Safety Plans are now published and available for your review. Huffman's site plan is linked below and you may review all site plans by visiting ASD's website. Our plan is detailed, comprehensive, and quite long. Please take some time to review and feel free to reach out with questions.

For K-2 and ER families, staff will be reviewing key elements of our plan with you during your school visit and tour next week. Our staff and substitutes have been trained and we will continue to adapt and hone our plan as we learn more information. ASD will continue to monitor any municipal or state announcements and adapt as necessary.

K-2 and ER teachers have reached out to families to discuss your intentions regarding returning to school. This is critical information as we prepare to welcome students back into the building. We fully respect each and every family's decision. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Please be sure to watch the video below that our specialists made to assist students with their return to school. They share a number of helpful tips.

We are counting on our community to help keep ASD Symptom Free. All parents and guardians must screen their student everyday before school. Please review the parent resources below.

As always, please reach out with celebrations, questions, and concerns.

All the best, Chris

Helpful Tips for Returning to School

Help Keep ASD Symptom Free

All parents and guardians are required to screen their student for symptoms before school every day. We are counting on all families to help keep ASD symptom free. Although there have been confirmed Covid cases coming into schools or school based activities, there has been little to no confirmed community spread within schools. We want to keep it that way. So far, the mitigation strategies appear to be working. We will do everything in our power to stop the spread of Covid by implementing and enforcing mitigation strategies.

We are counting on our families to help keep ASD Symptom Free.

At any time, if you have questions, please email nurse Krista at

Approved Face Coverings - Students must wear masks

All students are required to wear face masks. Please have your student bring multiple clean face masks to school each day in a Zip Loc Bag in their backpack. Please include a second bag for Dirty Face Masks. Please label the bags "Clean" and "Dirty'. Dirty masks will go home each day for washing. Disposable masks that become dirty or soiled will be discarded. Buffs and bandanas are NOT approved face coverings at this time for schools. If students forget, we have extra face masks that will be provided. Teachers will communicate specifics to their class and also share information during your tour.

We expect all students will need to swap out face masks after recess each day. If you have questions, please call the school and talk with Nurse Krista or your classroom teacher.

Calling on Our Community

We want to get our kids back in school. Doing this safely means everyone in our community doing their part. We at Huffman are asking you to help us get kids back in school by following the safety guidelines that have been outlined by many national, international, state, and local organizations. ASD's 3 W's poster above is a great starting point. We believe school is essential and a priority. We want to keep our students and staff safe while providing a meaningful and successful school experience. What we all do outside of school will be a critical component of opening schools safely and successfully. Thank you for your support.

The 3 Ws

  • Wear your mask
  • Wash your hands
  • Watch your social distance.
