EAGLE EDITION
October 2023

A Message from our CLO, Mr. Marker
Freedom had a great September, and October will be that and more. Our monthly field trip plan enriching our career class and program vision will continue. Our first parent night will take flight this month. Yearbook and client picture information will be shared out soon. Our Eagles continue to work towards their strengths and the campus culture continues to develop into a very positive peer network of teamwork and support from all stakeholders. The word continues to get out about our approach to student development, with excited families touring our “nest” weekly wanting to join Freedom. Thanks to what you are sharing out, we are becoming the talk of the town. It makes sense, as our Eagles are amazing young men and women, making the world a better place daily. It is good to be at The Freedom Institute.
Soar Eagles!
A Message from our Director, Dr. Poteet
In preparation for their future careers, many of our students have started mock interviews with us. These mock interviews provide invaluable practice and feedback, helping our Eagles hone their first impression skills. We're dedicated to ensuring all our students are well-prepared for their professional journeys. Our Eagles are soaring to new heights, and it's heartening to witness their determination and success. The following students are making strides toward their careers: Sofie has been accepted to the University of Alabama and the University of Central Florida, Erik has just secured a position at Publix, and Lenna is starting cosmetology school on October 9th. These achievements are a testament to our student's hard work and dedication. As we continue through the year, we're excited to see what other incredible milestones our students will achieve. Thank you for being a part of our journey and helping us shape tomorrow's future leaders and professionals.
A Message from Our Senior Success Coach, Mrs. Vaill
For ELA, we are participating in a literature circle using George Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984. Each week students are assigned specific roles and responsibilities including: discussion leader, diction detective, bridge builder, reporter, and artist. I have been very impressed with the thoughtful insight and discussions, and I look forward to continuing this novel together.
We've been learning SO much from Dave Ramsey's course: Foundations in Personal Finance, Homeschool Edition. Chapters 1-3 have covered an introduction to personal finances, budgeting basics, and saving money. We also learned about "The Five Foundations" - beginning with saving $500 in an emergency fund. Our teens are going to be so well prepared to create a financially savvy lifestyle!
We're off to a "flying start" with career! Our first guest speaker and field trip was with our next door neighbor, Rex Air Flight School. The students learned a ton about aviation and amazing scholarship opportunities for Collier County residents, and specifically teens, to obtain a private pilot license. We had a great time and appreciated all of the knowledge shared by their friendly staff. Our next guest speaker will be James Haick with Scout Comics (October 12th), and a follow up field trip to Barnes and Noble (October 19th). In addition, as Dr. Poteet shared above, we have been providing feedback on interview skills and resumes, and holding a reflection meeting with each student afterward.
A Message from Our Success Coach, Ms. Garafola
Our Eagles are moving right along in math. Eagles who are taking math with Freedom will be wrapping up the first sections in Algebra and Geometry this upcoming week. While the other Eagles continue to work on their individual math curriculum.
The past month in Civics has been full of exciting activities and learning. Our students participated in a such a great day honoring our country and those who lost their lives in our 9/11 day. Students shared some amazing stories and participated in heartfelt discussions about the day. In continuing with our Hillsdale curriculum, we also broke up into teams to debate some topics that we had learned about that are still affecting our country today. Students had to use grit as some were assigned the side they personally didn’t support. They all did a great job of researching the facts of each side. We have some amazing historians!!
