Meadowbrook News
September 30, 2022
From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
Carnival day is here! Thank you in advance to everyone involved in planning and volunteering at tonight's event. You have filled over 250 volunteer spots, which is nothing short of amazing! To show our gratitude, Mr. Lawson and I will be getting festive and wearing our "party" wigs and getting shimmer tattoos!
We are looking forward to connecting with you during our upcoming fall conferences! Elementary fall conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 17th from 11:00am to 7:00pm and Tuesday, October 18th from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
You can sign up for conferences using the links below. Please make sure you search for the correct teacher’s name, then find the day and time that works best.
Hope to see you tonight,
Natalie
Fall Conferences
You will have the opportunity to have the conference in person, virtually through Google Meet, or over the phone. It is not expected that teachers schedule alternative conference times outside of the conference days. Thank you for honoring our conference calendar schedule.
Each student is allotted one 20-minute conference slot. For students with two households, we ask that you plan to attend the conference jointly. If there are circumstances that prevent this from being possible, you may divide the 20 minute spot into 10 minute increments.
Links will close at noon on October 12th.

Reminder: No School on October 5
As a reminder, there is no school E-12 on Wednesday, October 5, due to Yom Kippur. In this year’s calendar, we have added three new holidays, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Eid-al-Fitr, to be more inclusive to our Jewish and Muslim students and families. For more information, please visit our calendar page on our website.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
We hope your family enjoyed the read aloud videos we shared last week in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. If so, please enjoy two new videos today!
As a reminder, September 15th-October 15th is Hispanic Heritage month. During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the contributions and the important presence of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the U.S. At Meadowbrook, about 5% of our students identify as Hispanic or Latinx. In addition to enriching our school, our Hispanic-American communities contribute to our government, culture, and economy in amazing ways.

Art Adventure
The Art Adventure program will be back again this year in January of 2023. We are currently seeking in-room volunteers to help share an appreciation for art with our scholars at Meadowbrook. The commitment is just three sessions but the experience to interact with kids in the classroom is priceless!
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Art Adventure is a wonderful way to engage with students and become a memorable part of their classroom experience. Sign up to lead (often entertaining and insightful) discussions with students about artwork from the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) collection. No previous experience is required and no art or art history education is needed at all! All training provided by Mia. Most sessions are delivered in-person but virtual sessions can also be offered.
Looking forward to connecting! Please email us with your desire to participate or any questions about the program - mbartadventure@gmail.com
