Dear Gentry Families,

After sacrificing an hour in the spring, it is once again that time of year for us to reclaim that hour back. Daylight saving time will conclude this Sunday, Nov 7th. Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour.

Not only does "fall back" November bring us a time change, but it also ushers in basketball season. Consider spending an evening with us this fall at one of our home basketball games. Our season openers start next week with our 7th grade girls taking on Lange at 6:00 pm on Monday, 11/8 followed by our 8th grade boys taking on Lange at 6:00 pm on 11/9. Enjoy your weekend AND the additional hour of sleep!

Looking for some good holiday gift giving ideas? Visit our GMS Spirit Store! Store closes on Sunday, November 14 at midnight.

Kindness Campaign- Food Drive

This week's RTI lessons focused on our Kindness Campaign. Our guidance department is spearheading this campaign in an effort to spread kindness throughout the school. In conjunction with these lessons, they will also be hosting a food drive on Monday, November 8-11. They are specifically in need of non-perishable "snack" items including popcorn, granola bars, Pop-Tarts, chip bags, crackers, pretzels or fruit snacks, to name a few. To add a little friendly competition into the mix, they will be having a grade level challenge to see which grade can collect the most snack items. Students can bring their snack items into school anytime next week and drop them into their grade specific collection bin. Go Jaguars!

Free COVID-19 Vaccine To Be Offered at Gentry- December 3

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of children in Boone County ages 5-17 have become sick with the virus that causes COVID-19, some even requiring hospitalization. Getting your child vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best way to protect them from this potentially serious virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that all people 5 years and older get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services is offering the free COVID-19 vaccine at Boone County schools. The COVID-19 vaccine will be available for all children in kindergarten through 12th grade. Our vaccine clinic will be held at Gentry on Friday, December 3. If you decide not to vaccinate, or if you do not return the required permission form (link below) to the school, the free COVID-19 vaccine will NOT be given to your child at school. The opportunity to get your child vaccinated is encouraged but not mandatory. This vaccine is free.

If you have questions about the vaccine clinic, please contact the GMS school nurse (Jennifer Ferguson at 214-3246). If you have specific questions about the COVID-19 vaccine you may reach Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services at covidvaccine@como.gov. Children who do not get the vaccine at school may receive free COVID-19 vaccines at one of the many vaccinators in Boone County found at www.como.gov/covidvaccine.

Sincerely,

Stephanie K. Browning, Director

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services

GMS Basketball Game Ticket Prices

Ticket prices for basketball games are $3 for adults and $2 for students. If your student plays on one of our basketball teams and you will be frequenting most games, you may want to consider purchasing a Family Athletic Pass. You can purchase this pass at the GMS Main Office or at our ticket gate on every home game day. This pass costs $50 and will admit a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) into each CPS game (both home and away). Tournaments and out of town games are excluded. The best part about purchasing this pass at Gentry is that all of the money that is collected from the sale of these passes stays right here at GMS and goes to support GMS athletics. Go Jaguars!

Gentry Read-a-Thon

Gentry Middle School has decided to hold a Read-a-thon this year! Read-a-thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more. Our Read-a-thon starts Monday November 22, 2021.

About one week before our Read-a-thon starts we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.

We've chosen Read-a-thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills. We hope EVERYONE participates.

Lost-n-Found

If you plan on attending conferences in person next week, please take a quick minute to stop by our lost-n-found area located in the cafetorium and check out all of the items that have been recovered, but have yet to be claimed. Smaller, more valuable items are stored in the office.
