The Kansas City Public Library’s teen librarians are excited to invite the participation of you and your students to the second annual Talk Book to Me workshop that will be held Saturday, August 4th, 2018 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. This event is aimed at teen readers in grades 6-12 to provide them with an opportunity to
- Improve their book critiquing skills through professional writing guidance
- Explore new publishing opportunities for blogging, vlogging, or self-publishing
- Impact which titles appear on the Young Adult Library Services Association’s Best Fiction for Young Adults selection list
- Learn about the education requirements, skills and responsibilities of a career editor
- Receive FREE advance reading copies of young adult fiction titles and other book related swag
- Hear from local debut young adult authors and participate in a Q&A session
Talk Book to Me is an end-of-summer endeavor that pulls in teens from across the greater KC metropolitan area to participate, including youth from the Kansas City Missouri Public Library, Johnson County Public Library, Mid-Continent Public Library, Kansas City Kansas Public Library and Olathe Public Library.
We would greatly appreciate your efforts in readying your youth for this workshop in any or all of the following ways:
- Share this opportunity with your students, teachers, and parents by handing out the Talk Book to Me flyer found in the attachment and/or referring them to the Talk Book to Me event page
- Educate your students on the criteria for inclusion on the Best Fiction for Young Adults selection list
- Facilitate practice review writing sessions or provide tips on fiction review writing
- Highlight the fun in reading during the summer by sharing how to participate in the Summer Reading Program
