A Marvelously Marian Week

Wow, while it was a frenetic week, it was a blessed week in that it was bookended by Mary. Monday, we celebrated the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and on Friday we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mary is such a great model for us because she said the ultimate YES to God. This week, we strived to say Yes to God by living out our mission statement to the fullest everyday.

La Virgen De Guadalupe

Father Will celebrated a beautiful mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He quizzed the students, and it was clear that they had done their homework, answering many questions about this beautiful Feast Day.

Following Mass, the middle schoolers sang a lovely version of Las Mañanitas, and then the Baile Folklorico Club performed a wonderful version of Matachines.

With Christmas Rapidly Approaching, Take Time To Savor The Wait Of Advent

Yes, it's already the third week of Advent. Check out the imaginative prayer exercise below.

Practical Tips To Enhance Your Prayer Life

Check out these pieces below on ways to make prayer more practical and impactful. They are two Jesuit perspectives, one from our current Pope.

Growth Mindset: A Message of Control

A key part of the success of growth mindset is that kids see that intelligence is something over which they have control. Rather than IQ being something they are simply born with, it is scientifically something that students can control. This message can have a powerful impact on kids: they are in charge of their intelligence. They can choose to slack or choose to work. Doing the latter will increase their intelligence. Read the article below for more insight on this.

If You Want Peace, Work For Justice

One of the fruits of our Maverick Value of Justice is peace. Through service to others, particularly the poor and vulnerable, we sow peace in ourselves, our homes, our school, our neighborhoods and beyond. Below is a nun's story of doing just that.

Christmas Concert: This Wednesday!

Our Mavericks are busy preparing for our annual Christmas Concert in the Church at 6:00. There will be a reception in Jubilee Hall following the event.

We ask that students be in their homerooms by no later than 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Students are to wear a white top and black bottom. As it's likely to get quite warm in the Church, a sweater may not be a good choice of apparel.

Native LIFE Presentation

On Tuesday, we were blessed to have one of our Grandparents (Mark) perform for our entire school. Our Mavericks came away with a better understanding and appreciation of Native American culture, and Mark even explained to the students how Our Lady of Guadalupe and Native American culture are linked.

Posada: An Invitation To Attend and A Call For Donations

Sister Juana and the Hispanic Culture Club are putting together a Posada for this Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Jubilee Hall. The entire student body will participate. You are cordially invited to attend and partake.

A "posada" is a re-enactment of the journey of Joseph and Mary asking for lodging for the birth of Jesus.

Traditionally, the participants in the posada receive refreshments. We would appreciate any donation of cookies, which would be given to students and guests.

Thank you for your generosity.

Middle School Retreat Led by Joe Melendrez

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I write that Joe Melendrez's visit to our school will be the highlight of many of our middle schoolers' year, and may be a major crossroads in their spiritual lives. We are exceedingly grateful to have him minister to our kids.

Hope for the Future Tuition Assistance Applications For Next Year Are Ready!

Hope for the Future Tuition Assistance applications for the 2015-16 school year are now available at www.hopeforfuture.org! All applications must be submitted online only and will need to be completed to be reviewed. The first round of funding will be disbursed as early as April.

Confessions

Last week, the primary grades had confessions. This week, it was the middle schoolers' turn. We are confident that this will help to positively prepare them for the coming of the King.

Maverick Athletics

Our Mavericks have a big tournament at St. Luke's and St. Leo's this weekend. Go Mavs!

Earlier this week, our Mavs had tough games against Feast. The B Girls and A Boys won, while the A Girls and B Boys played excellently, but fell just a bit short.
