Friday at 4:00
December 4, 2020
From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Our students are spreading holiday cheer, discussing interesting plans to see far-away family members, and anxiously awaiting the moment they can participate in their favorite holiday traditions. Our students are also keenly aware of the fact that not all children are as lucky as they are when it comes to the holidays. Our annual Holiday Toy Drive is always a success because of the generosity of our families, and we know we can count on you to continue the tradition of bringing big smiles to those children most needy in our community. Below is the flyer for our Toy Drive with links to purchase toys for students in particular grade levels along with a short video some of our 5th graders made for the Toy Drive.
Have a wonderful weekend, and you can expect our next edition of Friday at 4:00 in one week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez

Gingerbread MATH, not Gingerbread MAN!!
In case you haven't noticed, math is all around us. It's part of everything we do, including building gingerbread houses during the holidays! Our 4th graders are doing just that this week as they used their extensive knowledge of polygons and multiplying decimals to design, create, decorate, and calculate the price of their very own gingerbread houses. Students were tasked with designing and constructing a gingerbread house using empty tissue paper boxes with a random set of polygons to be used as the doors and windows. Students also calculated the cost of creating said gingerbread house by determining all of the items needed to construct it (pipe cleaners, stickers, pom poms, you name it) and multiplying the cost per item to the hundredths place by the total number of units needed and adding those items together for a grand total. From the looks of it, we either have a whole bunch of extremely precise bakers or visionary architects on our hands!
