Honeoye Secondary School News
January 2024
The midway point is fast approaching
In two weeks we will reach the end of Quarter 2 (January 26th) and completion of the first half of the 2023-2024 school year. This point in the year provides an important opportunity to gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of student's progress toward proficiency. The feedback teachers receive from midyear assessments will allow for necessary adjustments in instruction and allow us to provide targeted support accordingly. On January 26th, our teachers will be taking a close look at student's Midterm and iReady performance data to allow us to be strategic in our approach to the second half of the year.
Reminder: There is no school on Monday, January 15 in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

A shout out to our Facilities Crew!
Students returned from the Holiday Recess to a fresh coat of paint in the cafeteria thanks to the work of our facilities crew. The walls and railings received fresh paint using a coordinated scheme of Honeoye colors.
iReady Diagnostic for Grades 6-8
Students in grades 6-8 will take their second diagnostic test of the year using the iReady platform. This will take place during their ELA or Math class period over the course of two or more class periods (if needed). This assessment is adaptive, meaning the difficulty of the questions are adjusted in response to a student's answers. This serves to provide an accurate representation of the student's current proficiency levels in Math and Reading. The reading assessment will take place during the week of 1/16 and the the math assessment will take place during the week of 1/22. It is important to encourage students to give their best effort, resulting in the most accurate depiction of their current proficiency levels. This information will be used to determine the root causes for those students who may be struggling and assist in creating a roadmap of support for semester 2.
Literacy Club for Grades 6-8
Currently, during the school day, students in grades 6-8 who demonstrate a need for additional support in reading and/or math are provided Academic Intervention Services (AIS). Literacy Club will be provided as a resource (in addition to AIS) to provide even more support to help students who are not on grade level for reading (yet) reach that goal. Families of these students will be contacted directly with the details for this opportunity. We are looking to start this with the beginning of next quarter and have it run for 12 weeks. For these sessions we will be using Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) to support these students.
