Mrs. Shaw's Weekly News
October 19th - 23rd
This Week
We worked on letters O, P, and Q and sight words 'have' and 'is'. We also took our first unit test in Language Arts and everyone did a great job!
In Math, we began working on addition. Students learned various strategies to solve addition problems including drawing a picture, counting on, and using a number line. We also played a fun math 'scoot' game in which students had to identify if a addition sentence was correct of incorrect.
We learned about communities, rules, laws, and the basics of government in Social Studies. Students identified which city and state they live in.
We had some fun too! We painted a pumpkin to look like Pete the Cat. It is displayed out front so check it out. We also had a blast participating in the 5K for Bringing Hope Home. It was a great end to our week. Thanks for your support!

First In Math
Here are some helpful hints when exploring First in Math:
1.Visit Firstinmath.com
2.Choose Login *Students all know their log in information but if you need it please reach out to me individually*
3. If prompted choose, Early (K-2)
4. Then click on purple K 2 Circle
5. Students can then choose numbers or shapes
6. Students can then choose to practice any game
Some things to note:
*Students should be working independently. If something is above their current skill level, they should skip it and find something that is a better fit.
* See below for some popular game choices
* Directions and video directions are available at the bottom of each game. Feel free to help your child with the directions.
