Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
The end of the year is always bittersweet. It is exciting because we can see physical, social, and academic growth in all of our children from where they started just nine-and-a-half months ago. Our students have taken the role of writer, publishing texts for different purposes and audiences. Their final published piece was celebrated recently at our Young Author Celebration. Our student mathematicians have been engaged in math games to increase fact fluency, balancing equations, number work, and authentic problem solving. They should be able to show you more than one way to solve most math problems. Our readers have been reading a variety of genres at their independent and instructional levels, citing text evidence, inferring and comparing texts. Our scientists have been engaged in inquiry about insects, soil, lifecycles, plants, and circuits. Our historians have explored communities, studied different cultures, and learned about the roles and responsibilities of governmental leaders. Wow – amazing work has been done!!
As we wrap up our year and plan for next year, we want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to our families for your constant support throughout the year. We are looking forward to the upcoming school year and some stretching and growing that will occur: redesign of our library to continue to support our learners and their needs, additional staff to lower class sizes, and continued work with our HSE21 Best Practice Model. Hamilton Southeastern is hosting an Indiana Department of Education eLearning conference this summer (Launching INquiry). NBE has many staff members attending this conference and a few are even presenting! We are excited to announce a parent component:

On behalf of the entire Bulldog staff, have a HAPPY, SAFE, and RESTFUL summer. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
MakerSpace
Maker Space is a type of inquiry-based learning that we will be delving into a little more this upcoming school year. As you are cleaning out play areas, closets, and garages this summer, please be on the lookout for any gently used items we are in need of:
* Hammers
* Screw Drivers (Philips and flathead)
* Pliers
* Wire Cutters
* Paint Brushes (various styles and sizes)
* Plastic Mason Jars with Lids
* Legos (all colors, sizes, and shapes)
* Wooden blocks
* Hole Punchers
These types of items will be used to build, design, and take apart a variety of objects – sometimes based on specific challenges and other times there will be more choice for students. When the 2016 school year begins, we will let you know of more items you may wish to donate. Thank you!
