Cougar Band Update
Virtual Learning Week #7: Audition/Placement Week!
Welcome to WEEK #7 of Virtual Learning!
Coyle Middle School teachers and staff are streamlining our schedules to accommodate the needs of our students and families. Please see the newsletter from Mr. Washington for subject-area schedules and campuswide updates: https://www.smore.com/gc8nd
Communication
We will continue to use a variety of ways to reach our Coyle families. These include:
-Remind 101 (http://www.remind.com) code: coylemsb
-Charms (http://www.charmsoffice.com) school code: coylemsband student area password: your student ID (add the letter s in front if you have logged in before)
-Skyward (https://skyward-gprod.iscorp.com/scripts/wsisa.dll/WService=wsedugarlandtx/seplog01.w)
-Google Classroom (we are using the SPRING semester classes for all students; Percussion will use their specific Percussion classes that have been active)
Assignments & Grades
Continuing this week, ALL assignments will be submitted via Google Classroom. Progress reports lock TODAY (Sunday, May 3rd) and they will be mailed this week. Please remember that the last 2 grading cycles are combined. Zeros in Skyward will remain zeros until students submit assignments in Google Classroom. PARENT TIP: The Google Classroom parent progress report notices may not be as detailed and timely as you would like. Parents, you can download the Google Classroom app on your personal device and log in as any of your children. This will allow you to get alerts throughout the day/week regarding your child's assignments.
Some assignments will still require Smart Music, but they will be officially submitted through Google Classroom as a video. Please continue to login to smart music with this information: (http://www.smartmusic.com). Username: student school email address; Password: Smartmusic
Virtual Classes
GISD has chosen to use Google Meets for a lot of virtual learning. Students are expected to be professional in every meeting/lesson. Students should make every attempt to attend scheduled Google Meets, as this is often one of the best ways to prepare for upcoming assignments.
This Week's Coyle Band Schedule
Students are expected to practice their AUDITION/PLACEMENT music ALL week and submit no later than THIS FRIDAY. This determines next year's band placement at Coyle MS -OR- your chosen high school. It is also a grade that will be entered for this grading cycle. There are a lot of resources to help students prepare in Google Classroom. Students should video EVERY TIME they practice their audition music to allow their very best recording to be submitted on time.

Coyle Band Family News
Today (Sunday), many Coyle teachers/staff, and countless other friends celebrated Makenzie with a parade. It was so overwhelming to see how many people care about this wonderful family!
Band family, please keep Makenzie, her awesome twin sister Maddison, and the rest of their family in your thoughts and prayers. She has been incredibly positive throughout this time and we are so proud of her!
This week is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!
STUDENTS: Be sure to thank your teacher AND your parents this week for all they do. Send your teacher an email or private comment to say thanks. Write a card to your parent or family member who has supported your education. Your kind thoughts and gestures go a long way!
Let's Celebrate our CMS Band MOMS!
PRACTICE RECORDS have gone DIGITAL!
Practice Records are now DIGITAL. Students will receive credit for practicing by submitting this form: https://forms.gle/xrwuNHxX2aQe5baS7
Students are urged to submit EVERY time they practice; however, students may submit the week's combined practice time by FRIDAY each week.
Band Fees
We will still be collecting band fees. Statements will be emailed out weekly. At this time, Paypal is the only way to pay. We know that COVID-19 has had a huge impact on some families' financial situation. We completely understand. If a family is in a financial crisis because of the virus, we will hold off on collecting fees. It is important that we take care of the financials, but it is more important for families to take care of themselves. Most of the fees involved items and services that have already been provided. We trust each and every parent and child to pay what they can when they can. The CMS band program is a family and we will conduct ourselves in this manner.
Our new band website is LIVE NOW!

Many of our teachers are continuing to teach our students using different technology platforms such as FaceTime, Skype, Google Meet, Zoom, etc. Right now is a FANTASTIC time to add lessons to your weekly schedule!
