Canned goods such as corn, green beans, peas, baked beans, fruit, pasta, spaghetti sauce, soup (not broth), tuna, as well as cereal, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, toiletry items such as toilet paper, soap and toothpaste. *Please no glass containers*
Spirit Wear Collection Too!
Members of our 2020 graduating class are conducting a Spirit Wear collection throughout the district. Their hope is to collect new or gently used Sycamore Gear - sweatpants, pajama pants, pajamas, hoodies, shirts, hats, shorts, etc.
This drive will begin October 28 and will run until November 15. Students simply bring in their Sycamore gear donations and place them in the Spirit Wear box outside of the front office.
A big thank you to our Senior class for this wonderful idea. What a great way to give back to the Sycamore Schools community we all live in!
November is Mindfulness at Blue Ash Elementary
Mindfulness is...
• Intentionally paying close attention to whatever is happening as it is happening in the present moment
• Observing/noticing sensations, perceptions, thoughts, feelings in non-reactive way even if unpleasant, distressing, painful
• Acting with awareness instead of being on automatic pilot
• Mindfulness can be part of breathing, eating, brushing your teeth, feeling your feet on the ground and smelling the air if you’re outside taking a walk, and much more
Research has found improvements in anxiety, cognitive functioning and self-regulation among children trained in mindfulness to be mindful of what’s happening in the moment helps kids make sound decisions rather than be ruled by their emotions. When we’re calm, we can more easily be mindful and make good choices. (Why Mindfulness Practices Are Worth Your Instructional Time)
At BAE, both in the classrooms and media center, students are learning all about mindfulness. Staff are incorporating mindfulness into student’s experience in the classroom with mindfulness activities including breathing and gratitude journals; in the media center, Mrs. Kolde is bringing in mindfulness through new books, and on the playground at recess, teachers are bringing in mindfulness through yoga for select classrooms within grades.
For ideas on incorporating mindfulness at home, try the following at home with your child: Body Scan meditations, Spiderman meditations, Making glitter jars.

Vision and Hearing Screening update:
October has been vision and hearing screening month at Blue Ash Elementary. All Pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First Grade, Third Grade and New Students to the district were screened for their vision and hearing. Parents sometimes ask why is it important to have your child’s vision and hearing screened. Vision and hearing is important for speech, language development, reading and learning. Even if your child has passed previous screenings, their vision and hearing may change without them noticing a difference. If your child passes the vision and hearing screening here at school, you will not be contacted by the school nurse. Parents are encouraged to contact the school nurse if you have questions regarding your child’s vision and hearing. A vision and hearing screening provides only a snapshot of how your child performs on the day the screening was administered and is not a substitute for a complete exam by an optometrist, ophthalmologist or audiologist. If your child does not meet the Ohio Department of Health school screening guidelines with the initial screening, a repeat screening is done. If your child’s second screening still does not meet the Ohio Department Health school screening guidelines, the parent or guardian is informed of screening results by the school nurse with recommendations. Please contact our School Nurse, Mrs. Wyrick, RN at 513-686-1713 or wyrickd@sycamoreschools.org if you have any questions.

DISTRICT INFORMATION
Sycamore Schools On November 5 Ballot
We are just days away from a crucial decision for our district. On November 5, voters will decide on a $127.5 million bond issue to renovate and replace our oldest and obsolete facilities. If approved, this will result in an increase of $7 monthly per $100,000 of home market value.
Through our three-year Master Facility Plan process we identified the need for replacement and renovation of the district’s aged and obsolete buildings to support the educational and instructional needs of current and future generations of students. Learn more about why low-interest rates and escalating construction costs make this a cost-effective time to implement this plan.
Every school in the district will see some impact if the plan is approved on Tuesday. Learn more about the specifics of the plan, the construction timeline, and our vision for the future of our schools.
