Why did we enter the Great War?
There were many reasons why the United States entered the Great War. A few causes were nationalism, militarism, imperialism, and alliances. This war lasted for four years. It was eventually known as World War I. The United States entered the war because of the U-Boats, Lusitania, Contrabands, and the Zimmerman Telegram.
Zimmerman Telegram
The Zimmerman Telegram was sent by the German Forces to Mexico asking them to attack the U.S. if we declared war on Germany.
U-Boat
U-Boats were German Submarines used to sink British Cruisers. They were hidden under water and wreaked havoc in the Atlantic during war.
Lusitania
Lusitania was a British Cruiser that was torpedoed by as German U-Boat in 1915. Twelve hundred people died in this attack.
Contraband
Contrabands were any supplies being sent to an enemy nation.
Election of 1916
Wilson won the Election of 1916 based on the slogan "He kept us out of war!"

Wilson won the Presidential election once in 1912 and then again in 1916.
