The Seagoville Feeder Pattern

"We are strong, Seagoville Strong!"

The Weekly Dragon Newsletter

The Week of May 2nd

The Seagoville Feeder Pattern seeks to become the number one feeder pattern in the district. To achieve this, our principals work collaboratively in an effort to plan effective professional development for teachers, faculty and staff. Administrators calibrate during classroom observations to provide teachers with targeted and specific feedback to improve the quality of instruction in order to increase student achievement. Additionally, our principals lead professional learning communities to assist teachers with data driven instructional decisions, lesson plan development, the creation of aligned curriculum guides, and rigorous six week common assessments. All of these instructional initiatives will provide support for increasing the academic growth and development of the schools in the Seagoville Feeder Pattern.

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week, May 2nd through May 6th, is Teacher Appreciation Week. I would like to thank all the teachers who have dedicated themselves to the field of education. Teaching can sometimes be a "thankless" profession with the reward and appreciation for all the hard work, long hours, and dedication to the students often coming years after the students have left the classroom, and/or perhaps the school.

So, to all the teachers, I would like to thank you personally for what you do everyday for the students in the Seagoville Feeder Pattern. Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and patience. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the campus you serve in the Seagoville Feeder Pattern. I know that each of you have choices, so I thank you for choosing the students that need you the most: our Seagoville students. You are greatly needed and appreciated more than you will ever know!

I hope each of you have a great week this week and happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

Administrative Assistant Week

Last week, April 25th through 29th, the Seagoville Feeder Pattern celebrated Administrative Assistant Week. Campus principals, faculty and staff members, from each of our campuses within the Seagoville Feeder Pattern celebrated their assistants with flowers and small gifts of appreciation throughout the week.

I, too, would like to thank all the administrative assistants in the Seagoville Feeder Pattern. The office staff play a critical role in supporting the administration and assisting in the daily operations of their campus. I would also like to thank Esmeralda Land-Soch and Chris Lejia, Administrative Assistants from School Leadership (Pictured Below Right) who help each campus within the Seagoville, Adamson, Bryan Adams and Molina Feeder Patterns.

Seagoville North Hosts Emergency Responders

On Wednesday, April 27th, members of the Seagoville Police Department and Fire Department, Acadian EMS, EMS of Grand Prairie, East Texas Medical Center Air One Helicopter of Athens (ETMC Air 1) and Care Flight provided students at Seagoville North Elementary a day to remember.

These emergency responders provided students an overview of their profession, emergency tips, lessons on safety, a look inside their EMS vehicle and they allowed students the opportunity to explore their EMS equipment used to service the community. It was a great day at Seagoville North Elementary School.

Lassiter Teacher Receives Honor

Jennifer Trujillo, English teacher from Lassiter ECHS, is the 2016 UTA English Department's Wall of Honor inductee. Dr. Peggy Kulesz, UTA Writing Coordinator, wrote, "We are so proud of your professional accomplishments, but even more impressed with the ways you motivate your students to succeed." Annually, the English Department from UTA, chooses one former student, community member, or professor whose work and reputation brings honor to the UTA English Department. Congratulations to Jennifer Trujillo, Dallas ISD and Lassiter ECHS English teacher, selected to receive such a wonderful honor from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Magnet Students Receive Fork Lift Certification

Big image
Students from the Seagoville High School Environmental and Agricultural Magnet received their Power Industrial Truck Certification (Fork Lift) Saturday, April 30th. Proud students are Obed Sanchez, Edward Cuevas, Mathew Martin, Joshua Hernandez, Ethan Petrea, Juan Tinajera, Gonzalo Romero, Oscar Briones, and Joshua Vasquez. Also pictured is agriculture teacher Chris Chevez, who stated, "The fork lift certification will give these students a hiring advantage over other individuals because companies must train employees once hired to receive this same certification." These students may now be qualified for positions in maintenance and manufacturing, shipping and receiving, and warehouse positions in which this type of certification may be preferred or even required. Great job, students!

TEA Principal Survey

Principals, please make sure that you complete the TEA 2016 Principal Surveys to Evaluate Educator Preparation Programs in Texas by the June 15, 2016 deadline. The survey ONLY assesses the relevant teacher educator programs' effectiveness in preparing teachers to succeed in the classroom. The survey only applies to Texas educator preparation programs and it is required to be completed by all principals for ALL first year teachers. You should receive an email from TEA regarding this survey.

For more information, contact Dallas ISD Human Capital Management at rabel@dallasisd.org. You will be required to utilize your TEAL account to access the survey.

TEI: End of the Year Reminders

    • Written feedback and a conference are required within ten working days of the extended observation.
    • A teacher cannot be asked to teach a lesson outside of their content area for the extended observation.
    • Data from spot observations, extended observation, and any other informal data should inform the scoring of a teacher’s summative. The summative should reflect a teacher’s growth over the course of the year, as it is not a mathematical average reflecting all observation data if early observations were scored significantly lower than recent observations indicate for a teacher.
    • SLO Goal Accomplishment submission date for teachers may be set at the campus level to ensure all SLOs are scored in Schoolnet by May 19.
