BEHAVIORAL ADAPTATION- Territory
Territorial
The territorial behavior is a method by which an animal, or group of animals, protect/s it's/their territory from incursions by other species. In the territorial behavior, the species is willing to put his/her life in risk by fighting to defend his/her territory. As the area gets protected, the animal not only defends its area, but his food sources, water sources, nesting sites, and his family. In other words, this behavior helps the animal survive by defending everything the animal needs for survival. Some animals mark their territory by scratching or chewing trees, leaving a mark, but they can also be both visual and olfactory marks, such as spraying urine around the territory border.
Gorilla competition
These two gorillas are fighting for their territory, and not only that, like any other competition, these two animals are trying to prove who the strongest one is.
Elk competition
Many elks have competitions to find out who is the strongest or to defend against an intruder.
Mature Male's backup
As the lion patrols his area, he may have a backup just in case, but together, they look for intruders in their territory.
Migration
Migration is an instinctive seasonal movement of animals from one region to another. Migration does not correspond to all the animas, some hibernate like bears, some migrate like monarch butterflies, and some actually live with the cold temperatures due to the privilege of their adaptions, such as a bunny or hare. Migration occurs when the temperatures start to drop, then, animals gather together and start their journey. This movement is used by animals who can't survive in cold temperatures, so they move to warmer places like Mexico or California to survive.
