Picture Day Tips- The Outfit

- Make sure you and your child both love the outfit! They will be more confident and relaxed for the photo.

News from Our School Counselor
Parents,
October is National Bully Prevention Month and this upcoming Monday, October 7 is World Bully Prevention Day! Children and adults all around the globe will be wearing blue to show their support! I strongly encourage you to have a conversation with your child about preventing bullying, how to stop it, and the harmful effects of it. It is also very important that we distinguish the difference between something rude, mean, and what is truly bullying. Children often feel that if they are not the person being bullied then they should not have to stand up or say anything. Being a bystander means you witness bullying and sit back and do nothing to change the situation or help. More than half of bullying situations (57 percent) stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied. This is huge! If we continue to educate our children on not being a bystander and standing up to bullying we can make a huge difference.

“Vegetable of the Month”
Acorn Squash is our “Vegetable of the Month” for the month of October. Acorn squash got its name based on how it looks…like an acorn. Acorn squash is a good source of Vitamin C, Magnesium, Potassium and Fiber. We will offer samples to all of the students during lunch time October 15th.
Baked Acorn Squash with Brown Sugar and Butter
1 Acorn Squash cut in ½
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter, softened
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Scoop the seeds out of the squash cavities and discard. In a small mixing bowl combine the brown sugar, butter, syrup and salt and pepper, to taste. Rub the squash cavities and cut sides of the squash with the butter mixture and place them on a baking sheet cut side up. Bake in a preheated oven for about 1 hour until the squash is tender when pierced with a fork. Serve one half per person.
