Tonight is Murphy's Curriculum Night! I am looking forward to meeting you and sharing lots of news about your child's third grade year. Both third grade presentations will take place in room 120, Mrs. Van Horn and I will be presenting together.

So Far, So Good!

Students are getting used to our daily schedules, classroom routines, and school rules. Thank you for helping your child stay organized by checking their JOBs (Just for Organization Binders) daily. Here's a few tips:

  • We will be getting homework folders next week. Check these each day. Homework should be on the "homework" side of the folder. Empty the "take home" side of the folder.
  • PLEASE leave papers in the other folders. These are papers we are still working on in class.
  • Remember, if you have a quick question, or need to get information to me - feel free to jot a quick note in the assignment notebook. I check them each morning.

We love celebrating birthdays at school. This year we are not allowed to bring in ANY food items for birthday treats. There are other great birthday treat items, such as pencils, pens, erasers or stickers. Everyone is able to enjoy treats like these. Please send enough for 25 students. This is a district-wide policy.

Accelerated Reader (AR)

We are beginning to take AR tests! Be on the lookout for reading contract sheets early next week. Please be sure to discuss these with your child, and come up with a plan to keep your child on track for the quarter. In addition to reaching their point goal, students should be at or above 85% in overall comprehension. If every student in our homeroom reaches their 1st quarter AR goals, we will vote on a special celebration. Please ask your child about their goals often - they should all be able to tell you how close they are. Thank you for your continued support. I'm so excited that so many parents have already logged on to look at Class Dojo. This is a new teacher tool I will be using to help build your student’s learning habits and boost classroom engagement. ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day! One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows parents to check on their student through the website, or by downloading the free App. My hope is that this will bring you and me closer together and help you better understand the progress of your student on a week to week basis. Ask your child about ClassDojo, and how you can log in to check your child's progress.

Class Dojo also has a great little messaging feature, that works similarly to text messaging. This is a great way to send me a quick question or comment as well.

BONUS Dojo point for Your Child

Thank you for taking the time to read my newsletter. I plan to send these each month. Write me a quick note in your child's assignment notebook telling me that you've read the newsletter and your child will earn an extra point! Thanks for being an important part of your child's education.
