Ms. Lewis' Welcome Message
Dear 6th Grade Parents and/or Guardians,
On behalf of the 6th grade team, it is my pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you and your scholar as we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Louise Lewis and I am the 6th grade assistant principal. This is my sixteenth year in the field of education, with fifteen of those years spent in DC Public Schools. I received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University and a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from Trinity University. My experience includes being a middle school teacher, instructional coach, mathematics instructional specialist, curriculum writer, and inclusion support specialist.
As we begin this year, we face new academic challenges. At Kelly Miller, we believe in “the use of rigorous instruction that empowers students to use learning in authentic ways” whether that is done through remote or in-person learning. In both platforms, our teachers and staff will work to build relationships and help students achieve academic success. As the assistant principal, I will work to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in the potential of each student, and realize we are not just preparing them for the next grade, but for the future. This preparation will include experiences that are challenging, relevant, and meet the needs of the individual student.
I believe in open communication and a strong home to school connection. Please feel free to contact me via telephone at 202.499.0519 and email at louise.lewis3@k12.dc.gov with questions, concerns, or celebrations. I look forward to working with you and your student this school year to ensure a successful 6th grade experience for all!

Dr. Cox- Assistant Principal
Welcome to the Elite 8, where Excellence is Achieved. It is my pleasure to serve as your assistant principal for the upcoming school year. I am from the good state of Georgia. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in middle grades education in mathematics and minor in social science from the Unsinkable Albany State University, I began my career as a 7th grade math teacher in the Atlanta metro area. I continued my career by teaching math and English language arts in grades 4-8 where students made tremendous growth. In addition, I served as math department chair, grade level chair, and new teacher mentor. I then transitioned to assistant principal in a Pre-K--8 school in Cleveland, Ohio where within a year scholar made significant gains in reading and math proficiency. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Central Michigan, a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University, and a Doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction and educational leadership from Argosy University. I truly believe in the following quote “Every student can learn, just on the same day or in the same way” by George Evans. I also believe in working together to ensure the Academic success of your scholar. If there are questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via phone or email @ (202) 321-2273 or Donnell.Cox@k12.dc.gov.
