What's happening in 5th grade


We are beginning our new unit of study called Argument and Advocacy. This unit goes with our writing unit. Students will be reading nonfiction texts on an issue to debate and write an evidence-based essay on the topic. We will also be learning about homophones and point of view in fiction.


We will be learning about perimeter, area, volume, and the metric system. We will also be starting to study geometry, with will include circles, quadrilaterals, triangles, and angles.

Social Studies

We will research how people impact the environment along the Southeast coast and create a blog post discussing its conservation. Lastly, we will begin exploring the characteristics of the Midwest.


We will be continuing our Argument and Advocacy unit of study. We will be taking positions on topics and researching both sides of the argument in order to write a persuasive piece.


We will be presenting our weather projects and beginning our next science project on plant parts and photosynthesis. We are learning about the phases of matter, atoms, elements and compounds, as well as mixtures and solutions.

  • Please remind your child to charge their laptops every night.
  • As stated before, students should dress appropriately for outside recess.
  • Please consider attending the Instrumental Night at Seneca Ridge to have the opportunity to experience all of the different instruments available for Band next year.
