Newsletter Term 3 Week 4
St Patrick's School Masterton 16th August 2022
TUMUAKI/PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa, nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa!
As you were all informed in our last school newsletter, this week, we are introducing the start of our new reporting process to parents and whānau. In line with this process all whanau will receive a digital update this week, via the school app, on their child’s individual progress across a chosen curriculum area. This will contain either an image or a video clip plus a narrative comment from their teachers describing what has happened and the progress/ achievement that has occurred. FYI - a second update will also come home in week 9.
A reminder please that if you have a child, or know of a child that will be enrolling to start here at St Patrick’s this year, or next year please let us know as soon as possible. It is important that we are aware of children starting, as we need to arrange their pre-school visits as well as organising the correct amount of staffing for classes.
Listed below are key events that are currently planned for term 3:
August 17th - BOT meeting @ 7pm
August 22nd to 26th Book Week & Book Fair (organised by Penny Thomson)

Gospel of the Week
Jesus the Cause of Division
49 “I came to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 I have a baptism to receive, and how distressed I am until it is over! 51 Do you suppose that I came to bring peace to the world? No, not peace, but division. 52 From now on a family of five will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53 Fathers will be against their sons, and sons against their fathers; mothers will be against their daughters, and daughters against their mothers; mothers-in-law will be against their daughters-in-law, and daughters-in-law against their mothers-in-law.”

Term 3 School Theme
Principle: Solidarity
Enduring Understanding: We are all one human family, loving each other as we walk together
Whakatauki: Na koutou i tangi, na tatau katoa/ When you cry, your tears are shed by us all
- Further detail for parents/ caregivers - We are one human family. Our responsibilities to each other transcend national, racial, economic and ideological differences. We are called to work globally for justice. The principle of solidarity requires of us that we not concern ourselves solely with our own individual lives. We need to be aware of what is going on in the world around us.
Te Reo Māori Language Learning
This term our teaching staff have made the commitment to develop their knowledge and use of te reo māori . Each week they are learning a new phrase and their aim is to practise and use this in the classroom each day.

Seasons for Growth
Has your child lost a parent or significant other, experienced divorce or death? There is an opportunity this term for your child to attend a small group to share what has happened to them and to get in touch with how they are feeling about it. It will be facilitated by Jane Gannaway who has received special training in the use of the programme. It is not counseling or therapy. The programme lasts for 8 weeks and will run in school time.
If you are interested in your child attending this programme, please get in contact with: Jane Gannaway at: janeg@stpatsmstn.school.nz or you can speak to her in room 5.
Kind regards
Jane Gannaway
Sausage Sizzle - Friday
Onesie Day
Later this term we will be supporting this event. Our day for children to wear their onesie to school, with a gold coin donation, will be Friday 2nd September.
The Zones of Regulation Bulletin Board is now completed. This is a visual reminder to our school community that the Zones of Regulation is an important part of our school curriculum. Each hub created art for the different zones and this will be updated to keep the bulletin board current. Hub 2 created the green zone art, Hub 3 created the blue zone art, Hub 4 created the yellow zone art and Hub 5 created the red zone art.
The trip to the community gardens last week was wet but a lot of fun! Vegetables from our kura were taken along to share with the local community.
