NOHL CANYON ANNOUNCEMENTS
RED RIBBON WEEK - OCTOBER 24-28
Meaning/History of Red Ribbon Week:
RRW is in memory of DEA Agent Enrique (Kiki) Camarena, who was working undercover in Guadalajara in 1985 when he was kidnapped and never seen again. Shortly after Kiki’s death, U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter and Calexico High School classmate Henry Lozano launched Camarena Clubs in Kiki’s home town of Calexico, Calif. Club members wore red ribbons and pledged to lead drug free lives.

Parking Lot Stats! KUDOS to our WONDERFUL Parents driving SAFELY and VOLUNTEERS for making it happen!
STATS from Friday, October 21st:
# of cars per time frame:
7:40-7:50: 70 cars
7:50-8:00: 105 cars
8:00-8:10: 77 cars
Total - 252 cars in 30 minutes! Woo hoo! This counts cars that pulled into the parking lot for kinder drop off, as well as anyone who pulled up to the drop-off curb to let their kid out.
"Let's all continue to work together to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible!
- Make sure your child is ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you pull up to the curb - if they need a little extra time or help, please feel free to park in the upper parking lot and walk them in.
- Parent volunteers help ensure the safety of all our kiddos, as well as a smooth transition through the drop-off line so all the parents can get to work on time. If you can volunteer even one day per week to help, your whole community would appreciate it!!
- We know the sun is right in your eyes as you pull into the parking lot - we've checked with the solar system and there's nothing we can do about it ;). Please watch out for Mr Jones or any other parent volunteer who are directing traffic...don't run them over!
- There is NO left turn when you exit the school after drop-off or pick-up - this causes a huge backup in our traffic lines and we need to keep things moving!"
LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) Survey opens for Students, Parents and Staff
The LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) survey will open Monday, October 24th. Staff and students will be able to access the survey on the MyOUSD Dashboard. This year, the student survey has been separated by Elementary and Secondary. We are asking that all 3rd through 6th grade students at elementary sites take the survey. It is voluntary, so any student can opt out (to opt out, simply do not complete the survey)
Parents can see the survey on their child’s dashboard once the window opens and can elect to take it with them at home. Unlike the climate survey, there is no sensitive material. The questions are all directly related to the OUSD Strategic Plan initiatives and are for the purpose of directing the actions in the 2023/24 LCAP.
Happy Holiday Trees Fundraiser

We have teamed with the largest grower on the west coast, who shares in our mission to give back to local communities. Our online platform creates savings and allows us to offer our trees at lower costs and share our profits with our local area schools, and we’re thrilled by the opportunity.
The web site is https://www.happyholidaystrees.com/ and they will donate 10-20% back to the school
