Science Rules!
Science Test on Friday, Novemeber 13, 2015!
LIGHT PROJECTS!
Each class is currently engaged in a project about light. Every class is creating a product from lap books, to posters, to google slides. Once the products are completed, the students are trying out i-movie and the app Aurasma. We plan to link videos to a scan-able image, or trigger image, that will take the viewer to a video that explains the product. This is pretty high tech stuff! I am so proud of how the students are diving in and trying new things!
LIGHT VOCABULARY
Please ask your student to explain the light vocabulary words they have been learning. We have hand movements for each word too! Any review you do at home will help your child be more successful in class.
WORDS TO KNOW:
- medium
- reflect
- refract
- transmit
- absorb
Mirrors and Light Song
Light Absorption, Reflection, and Transmission
What's next?
Starting next week, students will begin a study of Earth science. We will review rapid and slow changes to the Earth, weathering, erosion, and deposition, as well as landforms. New information will be learned about the creation of sedimentary rock, fossils, natural resources, and fossil fuels. Earth science is a great topic, but it is often difficult for students to master. Please remind your child to bring home their journal and study on a regular basis.
Did I mention, "I LOVE SYMBALOO!"?
For each unit of study, I will have a SYMBALOO prepared. A SYMBALOO is a page where I can place digital content that will help your child further their knowledge on the topic we are studying in class. SYMBALOO can be accessed from any internet ready device. Each SYMBALOO has a link and all links are recorded in the science journal on the last page. Students can also use the SYMBALOO pages to help study and review content as we get closer to STAAR testing time.

SYMBALOO-Electricity
Tons of great ways to review eletricity!
SYMBALOO-MELTS-5 Forms of Energy

Homework-STEPS
Home work packets go home on Friday and are due the following Thursday. Homework is a crucial part of your child's learning process. The homework is an opportunity to review and practice the skills we are learning each day in class, as well as things the students learned in previous years of science instruction. Homework requirements:
- Full name and date
- Strategies on every question
- Complete sentences, when asked, and thorough explanations
Remind
I encourage you to sign up for the Remind alerts. This is an excellent way to stay up to date with things going on at school in our specific classrooms. You only need to sign up for your child's homeroom teacher. Please join!
