Ready for Vacation

It's been a fast moving winter with a lot of action and hopefully (if Punxsutawny Phil is right) a mild one as well. We had a great PTO meeting with a social media presentation by Mr. Freeman and Mr. Greeley, several in class events celebrating Black History Month, and we are ending the week with another Fab Fun Friday in the cafe with kids allowed to use electronics as a reward for meeting expectations (don't worry we only allow this once or twice a year - we like to encourage them to socialize in person). We will continue our Fab Friday's earning more music days, a hot cocoa bar (thanks to our PTO), and other activities. If you have other ideas for our lunchtime events - let me know!

We also had an amazing performance by our new CMS Dance Team on Friday afternoon. They had so much energy, impressive skill, and even got some of their teachers and principal into the act. It was a great way to end the day!

The science department would also like to thank all those that have donated supplies. So many people have donated so many materials! Thanks for helping to bring science alive for our students!

I wish everyone a wonderful vacation and we will see you on the 25th! Don't forget to send in those new pajamas for our PJ Drive!

Celebrating Black History Month at CMS

Each week I will be highlighting different ways that we are celebrating and exploring Black history and culture here at CMS.

Over the past week, grade 8 students have investigated the Civil War Amendments, the Compromise of 1877 and its aftermath, and a timeline of the Civil Rights movement from the 1940s to the 1960s. Ending today with students breaking down how African American citizens pushed for civil rights and how our different levels of government worked (or didn't) to resolve the injustices in our country.

After break, grade 8 students will research at least three prominent African Americans that contributed to our country's history. The kids will also research an event that was important for African American history.

6th and 7th grade students are researching famous African Americans for presentations during Mustang Challenge classes. They will complete this work after the break.

New Library Reading Area Fundraiser

The PTO is sponsoring a school wide request for funds to create a comfortable reading area in our school library. We will be adding a space with sift chairs, cozy benches, a rug, and other items to entice reading! We have already had a seed donation from Big Y Supermarket for $3500 to get us started! The $13, 000.00 would allow us to make over an entire section of the library for students use. Below is the link to make a donation - feel free to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like! CMS is working to make our library the place to be!

Chromebook Tips Update

  • Remind students that NOTHING should be stored inside their Chromebook case (except their Chromebook) when they close it with other items inside, it cracks the screen.
  • Try to keep the battery level above 10% dropping below can cause a hard shut down which can be difficult to restart and recharge.
  • Bring those earbuds!
  • Charge EVERY night!
