September 2015
Welcome New Preschool Teachers and Staff!
First, we are so excited to have Mrs. Emily Logan working at our preschool desk in the galleria this year! This is a new position, and Emily will be here every day to be sure that we always have someone at the desk to answer the phone, help children with boo-boos, greet visitors, help with administrative tasks, etc.. She has been a wonderful addition to our staff, and we know that you all are going to love getting to know her this year!
Our new teachers this year are getting settled and doing a fantastic job already!
Here is a list of their names and positions:
Ginna Ezernack -- assistant to Mrs. Carol in the Honeybees class
Laura Evans -- assistant to Mrs. Gay in the 3-Day-2s
Erica Malcom-- assistant to Mrs. Sarah in the 5-Day-2s
Noelle Beussee -- assistant to Mrs. Alyssa in the 5-Day-2s
Catherine Spearman -- lead teacher in the 3-Day-3s
Heather Dean - assistant to Ms. Catherine in the 3-Day-3s
Betsy Bahnsen -- assistant to Pre-K
It is so exciting to have these wonderful ladies join our preschool family this year!
Memories with Mom/Book Fair Week
The proceeds that we receive from the book fair also help us purchase new books and resources for our preschool classrooms! Thank you so much for supporting our book fair!
The Memories with Mom dates are Sept. 15 and 16. Please be sure to check with your child's teacher to know which day to come for your child's class. We can't wait to host all of our moms in just a few weeks! It is such a special day!
CARPOOL REMINDERS
Please ALWAYS TURN RIGHT when exiting the carpool line! This is for safety and also it keeps our line moving so we are not backing up the carpool line and waiting on traffic. Thank you so much for helping us with this!
Chapel with Mrs. Linsey
Chapel is held in the church's drama room on the 3rd floor. All of the 2s, 3s, and PreK classes get to attend Chapel once a week. In Chapel, Mrs. Linsey will dress up and act out a story, have a puppet show, read a Bible story, or just talk to the children with some props. We LOVE learning about God’s word. We sing songs in Chapel and of course pray. One of our favorite songs to sing is, “A Friend Loves At All Times,” Proverbs 17:17, sung to the tune of “The Farmer and the Dell.”
So far this year, Linsey has been talking with all of the preschoolers about rules and how we have rules to keep us safe. She is teaching the children that God also has a rule! God wants us to love one another as he loves us. We are trying to teach our preschoolers how to LOVE BIG!
Also this year, Mrs. Linsey is teaching the boys and girls about "God Sightings". "God Sightings" are when we see our friends acting like Jesus. For example, when our friends share, take turns, help a friend, or give a hug! Ask your child what "God Sightings" they make at school each day!
Preschool Snack Time!
Snack time is a fun and important part of everyday at Weekday Preschool. Parents bring in snacks on a rotation basis determined by your child's teacher. Your teacher will alert you to any specific allergies in the class that you may need to keep in mind. NEVER SEND PEANUT BUTTER! We do not allow peanut butter or nut products of any kind in the building.
Preschool parent Gena Knox is the author of "Southern My Way," a recipe book of traditional southern dishes updated with healthy living in mind. Below, she offers some tips on healthy snacks for preschoolers.
Ways to incorporate Healthy Snacks in our School….
Healthy snacks help kids stay calmer, alert, and focused in school in addition to keeping their tummies satisfied and full. High sugar and low protein snacks do the opposite. To maximize your kids learning time and assist teachers in keeping kids focused – we can feed our children healthy, high protein, whole grain snacks.
Choose food – not food products. Avoid high fructose corn syrup and choose foods with the least amount of ingredients (less processed).
Grains: Whole grain crackers, Tortillas, Low sugar, healthy popcorn, Honey wheat pretzels, Crisp flat breads (Wasa crackers), Homemade whole wheat muffins or banana bread
Fruits: Apples, Bananas, Blueberries, Clementines, Grapes (halved), Kiwi, Orange wedges, Strawberries, Raspberries, Watermelon (cubed), Orange wedges, Dried fruit (raisins, pears, apples, etc.)
Vegetables: Baby carrots, Cucumber slices
Combo Ideas: Turkey/cheese tortilla roll-ups; Hummus and tortilla roll-ups and fruit; Hummus with carrots and whole grain crackers; Cheese cubes with whole grain crackers and handful of raisins or fresh fruit; Homemade whole wheat muffins/banana bread (see attached recipe) and fruit; Low sugar (plain or vanilla) yogurt with fruit; Honey wheat pretzels and hummus for dipping; Applegate Farms pepperoni with pretzels/crackers and raisins or dried fruit
Things to avoid for snacks: Donuts, Cookies, Fruit gushers/gummies, High sugar yogurts (15+ grams sugar)
