Helping Hands
St. Joseph's Protector launched the Helping Hands Service Program. The goal of this program is to teach and instill in our children the importance of serving, caring and giving, and how it should become an important and natural part of their daily lives. The program not only supports our school's mission statement, but also the message Pope Francis repeated, during his historic visit to America.
Instead of choosing a variety of charities to help all year long, Helping Hands will support ONE LOCAL charity through various monthly activities and fund raisers. Selecting one charity will help to reinforce the charity's message with the children, while the local aspect immediately connects their actions of giving to a powerful positive result. They see, they hear and they learn how their good deeds can have impact.
This year Helping Hands is supporting The Breathing Room Foundation. Based in Jenkintown, PA, their mission is to provide care and support to local families affected by cancer. The foundation strives to provide a family "whatever it is that will allow them a bit of breathing room" from their daily struggle with cancer. This coming spring, our 7th and 8th graders will be integral in the selection of the charity StJP will support during the 2016-2017 school year.
Since the program's launch in September, the classrooms have "adopted" an assigned Breathing Room family which they will support all year long, have raised over $350 during our first Tag Day (There will be a Tag Day each month - next tag day is October 28th! See details attached), collected several boxes of winter warmth items and have said many prayers. In November, they will collect food donations to create the perfect, stress-free Thanksgiving dinners for their families. They will also be making Thanksgiving centerpieces with their prayer partners during their monthly service project activity, which is always held after each First Friday Mass. In December, the children will make Christmas cards, ornaments and have the opportunity to donate a gift to their families.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders
Busses and teachers are the only vehicles permitted on Fairhill. If you attempt to drive down Fairhill, you will be directed to turn around and down to the parking lot (off Roberts). Car riders have two options: 1. Park in the lower parking lot (off Roberts) and walk your child up to school yard. 2. Use the moving drop off car line in back parking lot (off Roberts). This line requires the parents to stay in their cars, single file, and just drop off their children, but then keep moving and exit behind the church. We must keep this line moving and carefully watch for children. A teacher will be on duty to assist with this process. These procedures are in place for the safety of all children, so your cooperation is necessary for this to run safely and smoothly. Walkers may come from either direction, and will either be directed into the building or down to the school yard. CARES drop off is the only exception to these procedures and may drop off on Fairhill at main building prior to 8:00 AM.
Parents picking up students in the afternoon must pull into the lot from Roberts Avenue and back into a parking space. Teachers and student safeties will escort the car line to the lot. Once all children are safely in the car, the student safety will direct the cars when to leave. Please do not pull out of a parking space until directed by the safety. You may not exit out Easton Rd. Students should not be picked up in any other location as there is no teacher supervision. Students who are not picked up will be brought back up to the school office. Any student not picked up by 3:10 will be taken to CARES and a fee will be charged. If you are running late due to an emergency please notify the office.
