How Ions Form

An ion is a charged particle. It forms by gaining or losing electrons so that they have a full outermost energy level. They have positivie or negative charges that are not balanced.

Why They Form

They form to be like the noble gases, they want a full outer energy level to become stable.

Kinds of Ions and How to Detemine Them

There are negative and positive ions. The positive ions are called cation. The negative ions are called anions. You can tell what the ion is by its charge. If an atom has more protons then electrons then it is positivley charged making it a cation. If the atom has more electrons than protons its called an anion and has a negative charge.
