DC Government
Snook's Seniors October 7 - 11, 2019
This week
Students will continue their project over the executive branch of our government. We will learn about the primaries and the presidential election that will be coming up. The students will research a candidate and do a mock debate with their candidate.
We will not do the live debate with the school, but we will do mock presentations in class. This is an individual project.
Transcripts
Transcripts with updated class rank through Spring 2019 coursework are available in the counselors office. Remember, your child also needs to request MCC transcripts to be sent to their college once they graduate. I prefer using the clearinghouse so they can track the transcript being sent.
College Acceptance
If your child has been accepted to college, please let me know. I love showing them off on my college board.
Current Events
Every Friday, we will focus on current events. It is important to me that the students learn to cipher through various media outlets and stay abreast on issues currently facing us. At the end of the day, it is important to me that they are able to be productive citizens, so I want them to understand the world around them.
Voice of Democracy
The students have been given a scholarship essay to write for a test grade. If they want to pursue the scholarship, they will have to record their essay. I encourage the students to enter, as they are already doing the hard part in class. This is due October 7 so please ask them to get started on it.
Bush Library
I have always taken the seniors to the Bush Library at SMU. It has many hands on activities that relate to our government and the kids always enjoy it. The students will have to pay for the bus, which is $10 each plus lunch money for the food court. It is a very worthwhile and enriching experience and if a child cannot afford this, please have them come to me privately. I am accepting money now so we can reserve the bus. Checks may be made payable to West ISD.
