Western European Foods.
Fact: Seafood is a key to Western European foods, due to most nations being close to the ocean.
Specific Foods: Shepherd's pie: from England: lamb or beef with diced carrots and peas under a mashed potato crust. Haggis: stuffed sheep's stomach with oats, organ meats, onions, and beef suet.
Northern Europe Foods.
Fact: Often have fish, cured meat, and dairy food.
Specific Foods: Smorgasbord: a buffet laden with cured fish, cold meats, cheeses, salads, and vegetables. lutefisk: dried cod soaked in culinary ash and water.
Southern European Foods
Fact: Mediterranean diet is based on whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and poultry.
Specific Foods: Paella:rice seasoned with saffron and mixed with puree of onions, red bell peppers and tomatoes, meat, and seafood. polenta: thick cornmeal porridge. baklava: sweet dessert made with layers of phyllo with finely chopped walnuts or almonds mixed with sugar and cinnamon.
