What a Week

We hope that all of you are enjoying a well earned three day weekend! We sense that last week felt particularly challenging in a variety of different ways for many of you. It seems like we're in the time of year that feels particularly tough- we've all been working tirelessly, sickness is catching up with us, we come to and leave work in the dark, and it's pretty darn cold outside. On top of all that, we are building something new, which can feel exciting and invigorating, but also crazy, stressful, and all-consuming.

We want to thank all of you for putting your best effort forth each day- no matter how you're feeling. It is truly wonderful to see how much all of you do to make sure that every child feels safe and loved in our environment. Because of that, our kids are doing some astounding amounts of learning! We definitely have things to improve upon, but we have created an incredible fledgling community of learners. It is an honor to work with such a fine group of human beings, and we couldn't imagine our school without each and every one of you.

Keep doing great things!

Michelle, Brooke, and Todd

This Week's Events

Jaimie Cloud Visits on Wednesday

Jaimie Cloud will be visiting rooms during project time on Wednesday. We are excited with how the current units have been progressing and it will be great for her to see all of the longer project time sessions in action. We will plan with her during our time. If your grade level team has some specific goals that you would like Jaimie to focus on with you during your planning session, please send them along by Monday and we will pass them on to her before her visit.

VtS Training on Wednesday

Brian, Paul, and Shawn will be attending VtS at Brooklyn Museum this Wednesday. Have fun!

CST Meetings on Tuesday

We will be conducting CST meetings for each grade level during prep time this Tuesday. Thanks classroom co-teachers for filling out the RtI forms! Please meet in Brooke and Michelle's office for the meeting promptly at the beginning of your prep.

Make-Up Picture Day

Lucy has graciously offered to take some make-up pictures for those who missed picture. We will pull the children who missed pictures at some point in the morning.

Announcements

Interested in Helping with Hiring?

Exciting news! We are beginning to find some qualified candidates to add to our hiring pool and will begin interviewing prospective teachers shortly. If you would like to help with the hiring process, here are some things you can do:

  • Send out an email to your personal teacher network and tell them about job openings. Brooke sent out an email last week with some helpful text that you can use!
  • Let Brooke or Michelle know if you would like to take a more active role in hiring and sit in on some phone interviews with us. We will keep you in mind and let you know about phone interviews as we schedule them.

How are Assessments Going?

Thanks to all of you for making some great headway on reading and math assessments! It is great to see so many of you gathering essential data that will inform instruction moving forward. If you have any questions about the assessment tools, please let Brooke or Michelle know.

Lots of Visitors in the Coming Weeks!

Due to the busy enrollment and recruitment season, we will be hosting many visitors over the next few weeks. These visitors are generally from community organizations, educational organizations catering to preschool age children, and NYCHA Resident Associations. Many visitors are interested in seeing our educational program in order to make recommendations to prospective families. Thank you so much for helping us to host and welcoming these people into our community!

Let's Make Recess Longer!

Thanks for making a better effort to bring students to Music and Sustainability on time this past week! In line with that reminder, please make sure to leave enough time in the lead up to recess for children to put on their copious amounts of winter gear. It would be best to dismiss children to suit up around 10:40 so that we can get on the way outside by 10:50 at the latest. If classroom teachers could help zip up coats and shove gloves onto little fingers until 10:45, that would be super helpful. Thanks for your support!
