History:
Mr Goddard has nominated Year 11 students Naythen, Angela and Bianca, Year 10 students Cullen, Olivia and Beatrice, Year 9 student Haydn, Year 8 student Max and Karmine in Year 7 for their effort and dedication recently
Mr Goddard would also like to thank Year 9 student Sofia and Year 7 student Adrija for helping the department at the Year 6 open event, they were a tremendous help and an absolute credit to the school, well done!
Excellent start to the Year from both Year 12B and 13E History groups with Mr Foreman, well done! Also an excellent start to the year for 10A, in particular David, Dawid, Dylan and Wiktoria. Finally, well done to Year 7 students Tomas and Myles for excellent baseline assessments in History nearly achieving full marks!!
Geography:
Mr Shepherd would like to say well done to 10CGG for a positive start to GCSE Geography with special mention to the following students who have made a great start, Mariana, Lubo, Kai, Emily, Laura-Lee, Lilly, William and Sophie.
Mr Strumpher has nominated 10D Geography for working very hard in lessons and trying their best practicing the new skills they learn in Geography and preparing for their End of Topic Assessment.
Mr Dorfling has made the following nominations this week:
Year 8 student Katie C for great work ethic and participation, Year 8 student Matei for hard work and a positive influence in the class, Year 9 student CJ for her participation and insight as well as hard work and Year 10 student Madison for good work ethic.
Year 9 History:
Year 9’s have been studying Trench Warfare with Miss Buffini and looking at why so many young men signed up to go and fight, they came up with a page full of reasons. They have been working so hard and enjoying being individual countries and working together as Allies. Pictured below are some examples of their excellent work!
Curriculum Focus:
Year 7 – Colour Theory:
This term, Year 7 are working on colour theory, formal elements, and tonal drawings. Understanding the colour wheel, secondary and tertiary colour and how to mix them is fundamental in art. Tone is applied with pencil to create shape and shadow. Being able to recognise the formal elements in a piece of work helps you to develop skills to improve your art. Students then look at Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” understanding how Van Gogh used secondary and complementary colours to create them.

Year 8 – Leonardo Da Vinci:
This term, Year 8 are looking at the sketchbook drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci. He remains a fascinating art historical character combining his art skills with a scientific mind. Da Vinci is a Renaissance artist, year 8 look at how he developed his drawing skills by looking at human bodies.
Using pencil, students draw Da Vinci’s “skull” and “Baby in the womb “and then one of what Da Vinci called his “Monstrous faces”, They then make a sketchbook to put their drawings in labelling each piece with mirror writing.

Year 9 – Jasper Johns
Year 9 - Pop Art:
This term Year 9 are looking at the work of Pop artist, Jasper Johns, and his piece “0 through 9”. Jasper Johns is a contemporary American Pop artist his work uses maps, targets, numbers and letters, abstracting the compositions and adding primary colours .
The students are working on a larger A3 piece using overlapping numbers. They are building on past skills of watercolour painting and blending colour. They will create a piece with their own idea of colours and composition.
