Elevating Excellence in Academics, Character & Community

Back to School - 8/28/2020

Leadership Corner

What a wonderful week it was to have families back in the buildings. The energy and excitement was contagious. We are so excited to begin instruction on Monday and although it may look a little different, we know that it will be the exceptional quality education that New Vision is known for.

This newsletter will provide you with information on how to start the school year successfully. We look forward to partnering with you.

Google Classroom will be the main platform, with some use of SeeSaw. Some teachers will be using PearDeck as a way for students to interact with the content. Teachers will be using GoGuardian and Google Meets to engage in live lessons and monitor student computers.

Helpful how-to guides:

Google Chrome Support

PearDeck Information

Logging in:
Students who are not using NVCS Chromebooks must log into their own Chromebooks with the NVCS Google Account. If they are using an Apple, Windows or Linux computer, they must have the Chrome web browser installed and must have a Chrome profile logged in with their student account in order to receive NVCS remote learning tools.

The Getting Started Page provides instructions and 'How-To' videos for doing this.

Monitoring of Students:

Student Accounts, and therefore student Chromebooks & Chrome Profiles, are monitored by NVCS. Any activity on these devices or profiles is accessible and traceable by NVCS. Other family members should be using their own devices or Chrome profiles, and students should only use these devices and profiles for NVCS educational purposes.

Students will have a morning meeting each morning. This is how we will be monitoring student attendance, please make sure you are attending the morning meetings. If you cannot make the morning meeting please check in with your student's homeroom teacher. All grade levels will have daily assignments to complete throughout the day, as well as small group instruction. Attendance is expected.

Teacher Interaction

Teachers will be interacting with students in a variety of ways. Each morning, Monday - Thursday, at 8:00, students will engage in a Live Morning Meeting with their homeroom teacher. Students who are in the Florida Virtual Program are encouraged to join in.

Students will also be invited to small group instruction time by their teacher for live support opportunities. Teachers are available for one-on-one instruction throughout the day. If you have questions or need support at any time please email your student's homeroom teacher.

Students will have access to recorded video lessons to address new content and grade level standards.

Small group instruction, and one on one live support sessions will be utilized to meet the individual needs of students in content areas. If your student is struggling, or if you feel they need more of a challenge please communicate with your student's homeroom teacher.

Small Group Instruction

Teachers will be utilizing small group/one-on-one instruction to meet the individual needs of students. Teachers will be using data to drive small group planning and instruction. Student data will be used from Dibels, Lexia, iReady, assignments, and teacher observations. Please feel free to reach out to your teacher if you have any questions.

Teachers will be grading work using NVCS Grading Practices and Policies.

Students/Parents will receive a weekly plan and communication from the homeroom teacher. Schoolwide communication will be going out in the Nighthawk News on Friday afternoons.
