Principal's Message
Dear Noddin Community,
I hope everyone had a nice long weekend! Tomorrow, the Noddin H&SC begins one of the biggest fundraisers of the school year, the Back To School Donation Drive! The donation drive is an easy way to support Noddin Elementary students and the many programs provided partially or in full by the Noddin Home and School Club. Using the corporate matching feature is another way to maximize the impact of your donation.
With limited fundraising opportunities last year and the uncertainty of fundraising events this year, the Back To School Donation Drive is more important than ever!
Noddin Elementary teachers and staff spent a good portion of time last week learning and planning different interventions and supports for students who may have gaps in their learning from last year. Using assessment data, teachers will be forming small groups and targeting their instruction. Support staff will be providing support in the classroom and running intervention groups.
This week, we begin focusing on our SEL (Social - Emotional Learning) programs. After learning more about these programs (Kimochis and Second Step) from our leadership team, teachers and students in all grades will have access to these lessons on a weekly basis.
Sincerely,
Eric Scharer

USD Virtual Town Hall Meeting - Wednesday, September 8 @ 6:30pm
From the Office of the Superintendent
Virtual Town Hall with Doctors about Optional Free Weekly Student Testing
We are pleased to share that we are partnering with healthcare professionals to provide regular, optional student testing at USD school sites starting mid-September. This new partnership with Grapefruit COVID Testing adds an additional layer in our safety protocols in order to continue to support healthy learning environments in USD.
We will be hosting an online Town Hall meeting with doctors from Grapefruit COVID Testing who will explain the optional COVID-19 testing program that will be available to all Union School District students attending school on campus. Only students whose parents/guardians authorize the testing would participate, and parents will receive secure, same-day results.
If you are interested in attending, click here.
A Zoom link will be emailed to all families and posted on the District website prior to the meeting next Wednesday.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, a recording of it will be available and will be shared with all families.
Noddin Fall Picture Day - Friday, September 10
Free Breakfast Snack and Lunch @ Noddin
Yard Duty and Crossing Guards
These are paid positions and a great way to serve the school and help keep kids safe!
Please contact Mr. Scharer (scharere@unionsd.org) if interested.
Important Reminders Regarding School Safety
Now that we have returned in-person, we need to return to pre-campus closure campus safety measures. This is for the safety of everyone!
Gilda Way: At dismissal, please do not pick-up in the street, park in red zones, or stop to wait for a parking spot. These are safety hazards and backs up traffic. If exiting the school parking lot, it's a right turn only onto Gilda Way.
Adults and Students: Please do not bike, scoot, or skateboard through the parking lot or on busy sidewalks during dismissal and drop-off. When walking, please stay on the sidewalks.
Dogs are not allowed on campus, including the parking area, grass, and walkways leading to the school. The school campus begins where the public sidewalk ends. If walking a dog while dropping-off or picking up, you must remain on the public sidewalk.
Do not temporarily park or stop in the red zone/fire zone by the Kinder/PreK playground.
I know this is an attractive spot for our PreK - 2nd grade families, but this area must stay clear to others, as well as preventing traffic backing up onto the street (Gilda Way). If you are trying to access this area of the school, drive all the way down the white pick-up/drop-off zone that runs along the front of the school. Drop off your student on the passenger side and an adult supervisor will escort your student.
You may also park near the school and walk from that point.
Please do not park or pick-up in the parking lot. Use the drop-off/pick-up zone.
A more expanded version of school safety rules is in the Noddin Parent/Student Handbook. To report a traffic concern or request enforcement, please see the link below.
