Summer Reading Challenge:
Welcome to the Tower of Books Challenge, an independent reading challenge for your child!
Boost your reading power… How high can you make your book tower?
Students at TES have a summer opportunity to increase their independent reading. The student’s goal is to build a tower by reading books over the summer. Students can turn in their towers upon returning to school. More information to come! Get to stackin’!
Here’s how it works:
Your child’s goal is to read as many books as possible. He or she will fill out a new book spine. Each time you read a book, fill out a new “spine” and tape it to the other book “spines” previously created. Consider hanging your list of book “spines” on your refrigerator or a special place on the wall. How high will your “Tower of Books” get?
1. Read a book of your choice
2.Cut out a book spine (posted below or make your own) and fill it out
3.Glue or tape it to the “Tower of Books.”
Consider an incentive for every tenth book your child adds to his/her tower. Here are a few fun ideas:
* Pick the family dinner.
* Mini-date with mom or dad.
* Pick a movie for family movie night.
* Stay up 15 minutes past bedtime.
* Choose a new book from a bookstore.
Your child will get to try some different types of books he/she may not have read before, and all the while have fun keeping track of his/her reading! Happy stacking!
