Happy Summer! I just wanted to send out a quick note as we begin looking ahead to the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Don’t worry, still plenty of time to have fun in the sun!

Have you Registered Yet???

Welcome New Families

We will see a lot of new faces this year! We are expecting just over 50 new students into Millburn elementary this year. We are excited to meet all of you and we welcome you to the Millburn community!

What Does Next Year Look Like?

We are excited to get back to normal a much as possible next school year. Here are a few highlights to note about next year that we are able to report:

  • Students must continue to wear masks at the elementary
  • 3ft distancing will be maintained in the classroom and hallways
  • 6ft distancing will be maintained when students take off their masks indoors (eating)
  • Due to the 6ft distancing for lunch, we will need to utilize both the cafeteria and one of our gymnasiums to accommodate two grade levels eating at the same time.
  • Hand-washing and sanitizing routines will continue
  • We will be having recess and students will be allowed to take off their masks

The are many other aspects we are still working out. As Dr. Lind mentioned in his newsletter last week, we are still waiting for guidance from the state to help us with planning. We will continue to update you on aspects of next year as they come up.

Cafeteria Help

With our cafeterias now split between two locations, the first couple of weeks will be a learning curve for our staff and students. We would love to have any parent volunteers to come in and help the first two weeks of school.

If you are available and willing to help, please sign-up below. We will have two time slots a day: 10:40-11:40, and 11:40-12:40.

Supply Lists

Don’t forget to check out the supply lists for the upcoming school year. There are lots of deals out there and I know many are eager to get supplies bought now. Follow the link below to see our district-wide list.

New Family Orientation

Being new to a school can be filled with anxiety and questions. We want to make transitioning to a new school comfortable for not only students but parents as well. Please join us for an orientation to Millburn Elementary. We will give you some information about the school and you will be able to take a tour of the building. This is designed for all families members to attend.

Who should come: New families to Millburn Elementary

Dates/Times: Monday, August 9th at 9:00AM OR 4:00PM

Where: Millburn Elementary Cafeteria

Physicals

If you are missing a physical for your child, please make sure to schedule it before the start of the school year. Once school begins, it will be hard to find time to schedule an appointment.

Supply Drop Off Night

Supply Drop-Off Night is not only a time to drop materials off in the classrooms, but an opportunity for students and families to navigate the hallways and meet the teachers prior to the first day of school. Traditional we have done this the night before school starting and families come anytime between certain hours.

With COVID still in our world, we need to adjust how we approach this night. We will do our best to continue to have this night, but we need to plan out how it will look and designate certain times for families to come in to alleviate big crowds. Once we come up with a plan, we will let you know.

School Picture Day

Tuesday, Aug. 24th, 8am-2pm

18550 Millburn Road

Old Mill Creek, IL

This year, school pictures will be done during the school day. We have tentatively set August 24th as our Picture Day. Classrooms will be assigned a time to come down to take individual pictures throughout the day. More information on pictures will be sent out in the weeks leading up to the day.

Retakes will be on October 14th.

Communication

We encourage all families to reach out to us (teachers, administrators, office staff) if you have any questions or concerns you would like for us to address. We aim to make our school the best learning experience for your child and your input is valuable in making that happen. Do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to help!
