News to know...
Technology/Social Media Tip
Parents, we encourage you to talk to your students about Instagram. Partner with them in being good digital citizens. Ask your students about “Stollerships.” In general, calling others out on social media causes distress and angst in middle-schoolers. Encourage your kids to look out for themselves and their friends in online spaces. We report any unauthorized uses of the Stoller name to social media outlets for removal from the site. Remind your students to put their AWESOME out into the digital universe! Read more about what parents should know about Instagram.

After School Activities Bus
New this School Year!
Middle and high school after school activities buses will feature “transit style” bus routes for students. Students will be assigned stops within ½ mile of their homes. All stops will allow students to utilize sidewalks and not have to cross busy streets. The majority of stops will be located near major housing areas (apartments, community centers or neighborhood elementary schools). The advantage to having assigned stops is the ability for parents to access the My Stop App to track their child’s bus.
If you need to request bus service for your student please fill out the Activity Bus Request form. These forms are also available in the attendance office.

OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) is coming!
If your child is interested in OBOB, now is the time to start forming teams. They will need to fill out an OBOB Contract and a Team Registration form. Forms are also available from Ms. Gillespie in B5 or from Mrs. Anderson in the library. There will be a brief, optional, informational meeting Thursday, October 5th at 8:30am in B5 for people who are new to OBOB, Stoller or OBOB at Stoller.
Stoller GSA Club
Any student who is interested in having fun in a safe place where they can be themselves, wanting to discuss issues around gender and sexuality, and anyone interested in standing up against bullying and making a difference at Stoller can join. Your child may join us if they are interested in making Stoller a safer place for all students! We will be meeting on Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm starting October 10th in U3, Ms. Whittle’s classroom. Contact Ms. Whittle if you have any questions. After school activity permission forms are available here and are also available in the attendance office.
Mission statement: The Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) is a student-run organization of Stoller students who are passionate about ending homophobia and transphobia and are here to support. We create a safe environment where we are working towards education on LGBTQ issues, ending bullying at Stoller, and becoming a voice for the voiceless. We stand for respect and acceptance for our community and we look out for one another.
Stoller Mock Newbery Club
How does a book get a Newbery medal stuck on its front cover? Students will learn about the criteria, read 2018 Newbery contenders and talk about what makes a book truly great. The club will start Tuesday, October 3rd and will run from 4:00-4:50pm every Tuesday. Students will need to fill out an After School Activity Permission Form. Permission slips are also available in the attendance office. If your student has any questions they can contact Ms. Gillespie for more details. There is no fee to join this club.
Stoller Politics Club
This is a club for any Stoller student who is interested in learning about, discussing and creating content involving local, national and international politics. We are currently working on making a YouTube video around what it means to be "political." This club has already started up and is meeting on Tuesdays from 4-5pm in Ms. Bing's room (D11) in Orange Hall. After School Activity Permission forms are available here and are also available in the attendance office.
Talented and Gifted (TAG)
Every year all students are considered for identification as Talented and Gifted in the Beaverton School District. If you think your child might exhibit qualities that place him/her in the 97th percentile for their age, you may wish to complete a Parent Information Form (located in the front office). This form is based on the Kingore Observation Inventory that is used by classroom teachers in the fall for a six-week period of time. Completing this form does not guarantee that your child will be tested; it gives the TAG committee
additional information in the nomination process. Please submit any nominations forms by October 16th, 2017. Parents will be notified regarding testing eligibility, and the required permission forms will be sent to parents prior to our November testing dates.
Do you have Student or School Safety concerns?
In an effort to be sure important and timely concerns are reported to the right people, Oregon has set up a tipline for student and school safety concerns. You can report a concern through their website safeoregon.com or at 844-472-3367, which is set up for voice or text. As always, students and parents can contact counselors with concerns throughout the school day.
Art Literacy at Stoller
Volunteers like YOU make Art Lit at Stoller happen!
Join us for an opportunity to enrich your child’s classroom experience with art history lessons and hands-on art projects. Art backgrounds are not necessary, just an interest in spending a day helping our children tap into their creativity!
