Administrators' Message

Dear Sandymount Families ~

Today, students and staff practiced two of our standard response protocols. First, students practiced evacuating the building in the event of a fire. Essentially everyone exited the building to a designated area and accounted for all students, and adults present in the building. After that, students and staff practiced a “secure” drill. This is when anyone outside of the building returns indoors and business continues as usual. Exterior doors are locked and situational awareness increases.

Mrs. Murphy would like to extend a message to Sandymount families that her recovery time has taken a little longer than anticipated. Mrs. Murphy will be returning on October 11th and is looking forward to seeing her SES family very soon!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dismissal Changes

The office is still receiving dismissal notes via the attendance email. Per school policy, all dismissal notifications should be submitted in a handwritten form. Emails are no longer an acceptable form of notification. Now more than ever our office very busy and we want to ensure that your child's dismissal mode is without any confusion. Thanks for your cooperation.

All changes must be in written form, signed by the parent/guardian and sent to school with your student. This change has been in effect since since the 2020-2021 school year.

Handwritten notes must be sent to school for:

  • Parents who want to change a child’s dismissal for the day. (early dismissal, change in mode of PM transportation, appointments, etc.)

  • If someone other than a parent or legal guardian will be picking up your child, please indicate their name in your note. It is a common misconception that the emergency contacts listed on your emergency card can remove a child from school without written permission. The emergency contact names are listed for the schools purpose in the event of an emergency when the parent/guardian is unable to be reached.

If transportation changes need to be made during the school day and qualifies as a true emergency, please call the front office for further instruction.

Say Cheese !

Picture Day is on its way.

Reminder flyers went out this week for next Friday Oct 1st. Order forms will be sent home this week as well. For on-line ordering before Picture Day go to mylifetouch.com and use the Picture Day ID: EVT7T346

We are looking forward to all those smiling faces!

What's Happening in Health and PE?

It’s that time of year at Sandymount… Time to get outside and enjoy the fall weather with Project ACES!

Project ACES, a physical activity challenge sponsored by CCPS and the Baltimore Ravens, runs from September 27-October 10 for students in grades K-5. Students need to be physically active a total of 60 minutes a day and record activities in their Project ACES journals. Physical activities at school including PE and recess count as part of the challenge as well as activities done at home.

Journals and information about the program were sent home the week of September 20th. If you need a replacement copy, please contact Mr. Goretsas or Ms. Hayman before October 11th. Please help your child to participate by recording his or her activities each day and remember to sign the journal at the end of the challenge and return it on October 11th. (Please Note: If a child has a “sick day,” please write this on the journal. It will not count against his or her goal.) Completed journals will be entered into drawings for prizes during the Fun Run…including a trip to M&T Bank stadium. Our school can also win cash which will be used to purchase instructional materials.

Our goal is to have 100% of Sandymount students return their journals! Be sure to return the journals even if your child did not meet the 60-minute goal each day. All efforts are counted! We hope you participate as well to get the whole family moving 60 minutes a day!
