WINTERFEST! Back by popular demand!
Years ago, our parent organization started a tradition called WINTERFEST! It has been the single most successful fundraising event in school history and provides good, clean family fun! We have had sleet, freezing rain, snow, and a "literal" blizzard in past years, but none of that has ever deterred the success of this event. In fact, one year we missed four days of school, Monday-Thursday before the event, and we had our most successful Winterfest that year, which we nicknamed Blizzardfest!
Here are some of the details about this year's upcoming Winterfest.
When: Friday, February 8th 5-9 p.m.
Where: Jerry Ross Elementary (we use practically every room in the school!)
Who: Everyone is invited! All families and community members.
What: A One-of-kind Family Friendly Event that will feature:
- A spaghetti dinner with salad, bread and dessert
- Games for kids of all ages
- Dance party with a DJ
- Unbelievable classroom basket silent auction
- Silent auction for donated items, such as professional sporting events, Disney tickets
- Handmade classroom items (my personal favorite)
- Unique staff experiences (principal for the day; teacher movie nights)
- Concession stand snacks like cotton candy, popcorn, nachos, and candy
A letter with information regarding classroom baskets will be coming home on Wednesday of next week. Each teacher chose a unique theme for their classroom basket.
Thank you for supporting everything we do!

Home-School Connections
Recently, the Indiana legislature adopted new legal requirements that “each Indiana public school, including charter schools and accredited nonpublic schools, shall provide age appropriate and research and evidence-based instruction on child abuse and child sexual abuse to students in kindergarten through grade 12. Note that this expands the previous requirement from providing education in grades 2-5 to grades K-12.” In order to meet the new requirements, Crown Point school counselors and home-school facilitators will be providing age appropriate, research-informed student personal safety sessions in December 2018 and January 2019. At the elementary level, students will learn the Protect Yourself Rules with their counselor or home-school facilitator in a classroom session of 30-40 minutes. Parents can view the Protect Yourself Rules and related materials at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation website fightchildabuse.org.
Parents are encouraged to contact Jim Hardman, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, or Deb Ciochina, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, with questions or concerns at 219.663.3371 or jhardman@cps.k12.in.us or dciochina@cps.k12.in.us.

Your child's birthday will be announced on the morning announcements and he/she is invited to the office for a small birthday treat.
If you choose, non-food items may be substituted your child may commemorate their special day by bringing a small treat for their classmates (pencil, bookmark, sticker, etc.) or dedicating a book to the classroom (and placing a special birthday bookplate inside).
