The Richardson Review
August 2022
Dear Richardson Students & Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Richardson Elementary School!
It is hard to believe it is already mid-August! We hope that everyone has had time to spend with family and friends this summer. Below you will see some photos of my family on mini-vacations this summer. If you have family photos from this summer, please email them to me at mhoude@isd622.org. We plan to make a slideshow with photos to display on the TVs in our front office and hallway during Open House, Thursday, September 1st from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm and the start of the school year.
This summer, Richardson was very busy with summer programming. Now we will spend the next few weeks ensuring everything is cleaned, organized, and prepared for the start of the school year. While everyone cherishes summer break, Richardson's staff is excited for the start of the school year.
While the start of every school year is a big transition, we want to acknowledge that with the changes that occurred last year and over the summer in ISD622 (new boundaries, school closings, and new schools opening) the 2022-23 school year brings with it a larger transition for many people than in other years. I personally understand that well, since last year I served as Principal of Oakdale Elementary. While it was hard to see Oakdale close at the end of the year, each day I get more excited about my new "home" at Richardson. Richardson is truly an amazing and welcoming community!!!
I want to reassure all new students and families to the Richardson, that we will spend lots of time focusing on building relationships this year to ensure everyone feels welcome, valued, heard, and empowered as a member of our school community. We are all here to support each other, so never hesitate to reach out if you need something or have questions.
I am extremely honored and excited to be Richardson's principal this year. Here is a link with the information that will soon be posted on my "Principal Page" on Richardson's School website, so you can learn more about my background, education, and experiences in ISD622.
Within this newsletter, you will find information to help you get prepared for the start of the school year. Please feel free to contact the main office, or me, at any time with questions, concerns, and/or suggestions. My contact information is mhoude@isd622.org or 651-748-6910.
Together,
Mrs. Houde (pronounced "hood")

NURSE KONNIE'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents/Guardians of Richardson Students:
I am hoping this letter finds you all well and enjoying your HOT summer!! There are only
a few weeks left of summer vacation and then we go back to school. I am excited to be back for my 2 nd year at Richardson. I have made many amazing connections with so many of your kids. I also look forward to meeting any new students.
Please take a moment and read this carefully as it contains very important information for
the school year.
Each year we ask that everyone fill out the Student Health Information/ER form. This year it is
only available online on the district IDS 622 website. Having this form is super important for me as it contains all health information and emergency contacts that I might need.
When filling it out please be complete for everything.
IF your student has a health condition it is vital that I know about it. IF they take ANY kind of
medications that I will need at school I will need the following BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS.
- Be sure to list ANY medications your child takes that will be given at school
- IF there is anything else I need to know please make a note under “other” on the form
- IF your child has any medications that I will have at school (pills, liquids, inhalers, Epi Pens) I MUST have a written MD order with the meds or faxed to me at school.
- The medication no matter what it is must be a prescription in the ORIGINAL package with the student’s name on it.
- I will need any asthma/allergy plans from the MD
- All orders may be brought to school or faxed to the Health Office at 651.748.6991
- I cannot give any kind of medication until I get the order from the physician’s office.
- IF your child is prone to headaches, please talk to their Dr about getting some Advil, Tylenol, or Motrin at school for me to use as needed. Again, I must have a dr order to give these meds also.
It is extremely important that I have a phone number that will be answered during the school
day in case I need to reach out for any reason. Please be sure to include home/cell/ and email on the form. Also, list emergency contacts that will be available if needed.
ISD 622 is offering immunization clinics before school starts this fall. These clinics are “low-
cost/no-cost” and all immunizations required for entering school will be available and no
appointment is needed. Health Insurance is not required, but if you do carry insurance, please
bring your card.
Clinics will be held:

Just a few reminders for the school year:
Please keep your child home if they are not feeling well. We take the health and
safety of our students/staff very seriously.
Symptoms that should keep your child home include but are not limited to:
- Fever
- Body aches and/or Ear aches
- Stomach aches, pains, and/or vomiting-
- Diarrhea
- Coughing due to illness
- Stuffy/Runny nose
A refresher on our guidelines:
-If your child has any symptoms of illness or is sent home from school, they must be kept home at least 24 hours AND/OR until they are symptom-free without meds for 24 hours.
Fall allergies (Ragweed, Hay fever) are here and will be until we get a hard freeze! Please be
sure to include any seasonal, food, or medication allergies your child might have on the form
and also if they take any medications for them.
Some tips to make living with allergies a bit easier are:
- Start any antihistamines and nasal sprays early. Keep going with them until the season is over
- Give the antihistamine at night before bed so they wake up with fewer symptoms/tiredness for the school day
- Have your child shower/wash their hair at night to get the pollen off before bed
- Keep the windows closed to keep pollen out of the house
- Always check with your child’s physician for any questions or concerns
As always if you have questions/concerns please feel free to email me at kharstad@isd622.org. I will be back in the office beginning August 29th. Hope to see many of you at the open house.

ONLINE APPLICATION FOR EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS
The free meal program ended on June 30, 2022. The federal program that allowed District 622 to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students expired on June 30, 2022. As a result, District 622 will revert back to free and reduced-price meals based on income eligibility guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
During the 22-23 school year, families who do not qualify for free or reduced-priced meals will have to pay for breakfast and lunch. All 622 families are asked to complete an application to see if they qualify. Completing the application also helps the district to receive extra funding to support student programs. Visit www.isd622.org/titanschoolsolutions for more information.
If you do qualify, you can get discounted rates on athletics and activities fees, swimming lessons, driver training, and community education courses, among other discounts. There are also many community discounts available for qualifying families. For information about these discounts, visit www.isd622.org/educationalbenefitsapp.
