What's Going On In The Intermediate World
Books, books & books
I have read a ton of books over the summer but the one that probably spoke to me the most was Flash. This was such a great non-fiction read about a homeless donkey that changed the lives of a Texas couple. If you want a great easy read about love, companionship, faith, and determination - pick this one up. I also follow Flash on Twitter @FlashTheDonkey to keep up with any shenanigans he may be up to.
The Saxton Homestead - update
Here is an update on the family farm. We have added a couple of friends to the group. One is a miniature Scottish Highland Bull - his name is Angus. He is pretty cool to look at but a little skittish still. He is allowing us to slowly get a little closer each day. In addition, we had an added bonus as our female donkey came to us pregnant. So we were blessed with a baby female donkey of which we named Rose. In addition, we gained 2 more baby goats - still no names for them yet, but we are working on it! We are growing a little at a time and have even started producing eggs from a few of the chickens. We are having fun and enjoying the farm every single day. Feel free to ask me about my donkeys, goats, chickens, rabbit, dogs or cats any time!!
Summer Vacation
We were so excited to head to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for our family vacation this summer. My daughter and I have never been to the Smokey Mountains and it was such a treat. My husband grew up actually hiking the Appalachian trail many times with his dad. There is so much peace in being outside surrounded by such beautiful scenery. We did a lot of hiking and driving through Smokey Mountain National Park. We stayed off of the main strip in Gatlinburg but enjoyed multiple sights around the area. If you have never been, oh my I would highly recommend going. We want to go back and take in more of the hikes and scenery.
SUMMER POSTCARDS
Each summer I mail out postcards to the students that will be on campus. I will be sending these out on July 19th. I do have cards for the new students to Brock and send those out usually during the first week of school in order to ensure I get everyone. If your child did not receive my postcard, please let me know. I am diligent to ensure that each child gets one and do want to be informed if one does not get delivered. Feel free to email me to let me know since our phone systems: isaxton@brockisd.net.
My Family & Me
A little bit about my family: my husband, John, works for TCU as a Network Engineer. My daughter, Morgan, will be a Junior at BHS this year - wow how time flies!! As I said before, we have started our homestead and spend lots of time at home tending to the animals and the property. I enjoy reading and you will see that I post the various books that I read, for both professional insight as well as personal reflection, in my weekly newsletters. I am huge on communication and work hard to try and help keep staff, students, parents and community aware of the various things we have going on around campus. I am blessed each day to serve others and look forward to serving you.
