Principal's Corner
The beginning of the school year is off to a great start. Students are building relationships with their classmates and teachers. Our classrooms have created a Social Contract so everyone knows how to treat each other at Steeby Elementary. Everyone is doing a great job remembering to Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe as they learn daily routines and procedures. Our students were taught the expectations for the hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, and the playground. We continue to reinforce these expectations and encourage students to follow them daily.
We have started our fall testing. Your child will take the NWEA Reading and NWEA Math tests. Teachers are also conducting Running Records with each of their students. This is the assessment tool we use to determine your child’s reading level.
I strongly believe in communication between parents, teachers, and principals to ensure the success of every child. I have an open door policy and invite your visits at any time. Please call the front office at 269.792.2281 or email me johnsonc@waylandunion.org if you ever need to speak with me regarding your child.
Yours in education,
Christina Johnson

Media Moments
Happy September!
So far in media class we have been practicing rules and procedures around listening to a story and using the computer lab. We will be celebrating Dot Day in media class next week. Dot Day is Friday, September 15th. Students can wear dot clothing or any patterned clothing (stripes, plaid, etc.) to celebrate on Friday, September 15th. What is Dot Day again? Dot Day was created based on the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. It celebrates creativity and the arts. If you would like to know more about Dot Day check out this website: https://www.internationaldotday.org/
