We are working on adding details to our writing and illustrations by answering Who, What, When, Where questions.
Discovery News:
Hello wonderful parents! This is Mrs. Foust with our news from Discovery. This week our rhyme was, “Hickory, Dickory Dock.” Students learned a fun song for the rhyme and made a clock. We had movement day on Tuesday and had lots of fun doing relay races outdoors! For Social Skills we discussed how people may have different feelings about the same topic. We also talked about a new word- empathy- understanding how others feel. Next week for Discovery we will begin a unit on Family.

Our Week
In literacy we read several non fiction books and a few silly Halloween books. We are noticing the differences when we read fiction and non fiction text. We talked about captions, content table, glossary, index as key features in non fiction text.
Our reading is supporting our inquiries in science, we have know a lot about trees. We went on a short walk today and found the Gingko trees that are along the front walk here at TCE, we learned that they have been around for 350 million years!
We planted three different kinds of beans and we are charting when they will sprout and grow.
In math we have been working on addition within 5, we explored tools we can use to help us add, we especially like using counting ropes.
In writer's workshop we worked on answering questions Who, What, When, Where with our writing and our illustrations. Next week we are starting bookmaking, we are excited.
Today was our 5th time in the computer lab, many of the students are now able to log in and navigate the TCE student links,
Monday is our field trip, please have your student wear their class shirt comfortable shoes and pack a disposable lunch. Dress for the weather! it might be chilly in the morning. We are very excited about riding the bus and going on our first field trip.
Have a great weekend,

Hello, my name is Cherra Atkinson and I am your child's cadet teacher for this year. I am a 17 year old senior who has a desire to teach. What the cadet teacher program is , it's learning the process of how a teacher works and if teaching is the right thing for that person. One would get the opportunity to work in the class room to see what it's like. I am assisting Mrs.Smit with reading, writing, and other activities. I also help her getting her class ready for everyday things.
Getting into the program was a hard procedure. There was an essay , one had to get recommendation and go through a personal interview ,with my teacher Mrs.Trinkle. I knew this was the program for me when I heard that we would be given the chance to work with children. I have always wanted to be a teacher so I think that plays a big part in this program. Also in the far future I want to own my own daycare with a special needs aspect.
Thank for your time and I can't wait to get to know your children better and help them learn.
Sincerely,
Cherra Atkinson
WHAT TO ASK?
Have a kiddo that is reluctant to talk about what they did at school all day? Here are a couple questions to get the conversation rolling.
* What makes a tree strong enough to grow tall?
* What is something you have been writing about?
* How was time in the computer lab?
