11th grade: PSAT (all students)
10th grade: Pre-ACT (all students)

Tests will be administered in the morning and all students will return to their classes after lunch. The detailed schedule has been shared in previous correspondence from our Guidance Department and Assistant Principals.
World Languages Department participating in the MA State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2022-2023 school year
The State Seal of Biliteracy is an award provided by state-approved districts that recognize high school graduates who attain high functional and academic levels of proficiency in English and a world language in recognition of having studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Our vision is to help students recognize the value of their academic success and see the tangible benefits of being bilingual. The State Seal of Biliteracy takes the form of a seal that appears on the transcript or diploma of the graduating senior and is a statement of accomplishment for future employers and for college admissions.

2 CHS Seniors Recognized as Commended by National Merit Scholarship Corporation
CANTON -- Superintendent Derek Folan and Principal Jeffrey Sperling are pleased to announce that students Matthew Lesser and Leopold MacMullen have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented to the seniors by Principal Sperling on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. "We would like to congratulate Matthew and Leopold on this amazing accomplishment," Principal Sperling said. "This award is a testament to all the hard work they each have put into their studies and we know they will go onto great things after their time at Canton High." About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. "Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
Handbook Highlights
Based on feedback from the Handbook Review Committee and various stakeholder groups, we increased our practices related to timely and consistent notification of absences. In addition, we identified support structures for students experiencing challenges attending school consistently. Below is a summary of our notification process:
- Families are notified via direct email when a student reaches 4 absences or tardies in a single term. This is simply to ensure families are aware and to avail support before students approach the absence limit.
- Counselors including our Home School Interventionist are made aware of students at or above that threshold.
- A second letter is sent when a student reaches/exceeds the absence limit (8 absences and/or tardies per term) with resources for support as well as accountability measures per our Attendance Procedures and Extra-Curricular/Athletic eligibility requirements.
Our hope is that this timely and consistent communication will prevent students from exceeding the absence limit as well as providing interventions and support as needed along the way.
CHS Faculty/Staff Member of the Month
The Faculty/Staff Member of the Month program is designed to recognize outstanding teachers, school counselors, educational assistants, administrative assistants, cafeteria staff, and custodians for their contributions to Canton High School, excellence in and out of the classroom, leadership, innovation, community involvement, dedication, and support for CHS students. Each month, one faculty/staff member will be recognized.
Nominations may be submitted by the school faculty, staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members.
Regardless of the outcome, Canton High School would like to stress that the real tribute of this award is the nomination, which symbolizes the esteem and appreciation the community has for its faculty and staff.
