ANCIENT NEWS
Greek Theatre, Year 9 Drama Assignment
SINCE WHEN??
The first recordings of the Ancient Greek Theatre were around the 5th century B.C. That is a long long long loonngg time ago, so it was pretty different from the Modern day Theatre we have today. Everything would of been different right? Yes everything was different.
DIFFERENCES IN THE THEATRE
MEN ONLY!?!?
Yep thats right only men where allowed to act at that time, they were the more superior gender through the ages. They did everything, all the time, they acted every part in all the plays. But yes, they did have girl parts in the play, but unfortunately they weren't allowed to act as them, even though they were female roles. (THE MEN WERE SO SELFISH WERENT THEY??)
2 GENRES?? WHAT??
Yes they only had 2 genres. Which is very different to us, today who have Romance, Horror, Thriller (No, not the song from Michael Jackson), Comedy, Tragedy , Action, Adventure, Animation and so on.... See how i have Bolded and underlined comedy and tragedy? well thats all the Greeks had when they did their plays. That would be pretty boring don't you think?? YEAAHH
AMPHITHEATRE?? WHATS THAT??
The Ancient Greek back then had a very "unique" way of setting out their Theatres, they were very smart in the way they built them first of all. They would set them up into the a shape close enough to a semi-circle. This enabled them to face the audience and they would pretty much be heard by all of them sitting on the bottom to the top.
About the very Handsome man who made this..
