Castles & Transportation


Chateaux forts are massive castles built for protection in the Middle Ages. They were usually surrounded by a moat and built in a strategic location.

Chateaux de la Renaissance were more constructed for regal taste and comfort rather than for protective purposes. They usually had large windows, ornate sculptures and highly decorated interiors.


The intercity bus and the train are great ways to travel France. Nearly all train systems are electric and computerized.

One of the more popular transports is the Train a Grand Vitesse is popular for traveling long distances.

The Gare Routière Is popular for traveling to more remote towns. Some buses will offer tours.
