The demolition of the Annex will occur in the coming months and the new Sandy Run Middle School will begin to emerge. SRMS Update!

June 23, 2019 - A big shout out to our custodial, maintenance, and grounds crews for their tremendous work at SRMS after last week's flooding. We also thank ServPro for their professional help!

Despite the industrial fans running throughout the lower level of SRMS, we are in good shape. Given that we experienced flooding, we are in the process of setting up air-quality tests following all the clean up to ensure the environment is good for students and staff!

Rain Rain Go Away!

June 20, 2019 - Work continues at SRMS, and the installation of the modular classrooms and new entry way is underway to comply with the Consent Decree. The amount of rain that has occurred over the past few days has most certainly made the work interesting!

The rain that we had last evening caused flooding in the first floor of SRMS. Fear not! Our custodial, maintenance, and grounds staff did an amazing job with initiating the clean-up, and ServPro was onsite to ensure the water was taken care of. Perhaps one of these days (hopefully soon!) we will once again experience some sunshine and no rain!

The Latest...

May 31, 2019 - Site work continues to prepare for the installation of the modular classrooms that will be used during construction. To date our contractors have been excellent. As a reminder, and to provide peace of mind to parents and guardians, all contractors who are on our site are vetted using the same background checks as our staff are required to have.

Construction Updates

Making Middle School Memories: Ensuring a Quality Middle Level Experience !

May 10, 2019 - The middle school experience often creates great memories for students! A goal of ours is to maintain the many wonderful things that occur during the middle school years, despite construction and other legal matters.

As previously shared in communication from our Board of School Directors, moving forward students' curricular experiences will not change as a result of the Consent Decree. This includes assemblies, field trips, and other fun events. Great care is being taken to host these special events in areas of the school (and in other locations) that are accessible for all students!

Additionally, the District is working with counsel to provide an outdoor option for students during construction, specifically for break time after lunch. The District believes we have found space outdoors, in addition to the patio, that can be accessed by all students. We hope to share some updates soon. We plan to provide meaningful access to all students.

Finally, if you have not already viewed it, we have created a document that shows the locations for sports practices and games for SY 2019-2020. With virtually the entirety of the SRMS under construction, alternate locations have been identified for sports practices and games.

Preparations Continue for the Installation of Modulars

May 8, 2019 - Construction continues at SRMS. In the parking lot in front of the main building, excavation continues to prepare the ground for the installation of the modular classrooms that will house 6th graders during the construction of the new SRMS. This work has created some revisions to traffic patterns at the SRMS site. A big shout out to our SRMS administrative team, staff, and students for being flexible as construction continues.

There have also been some revisions to the interior of the main building. In the main hallways, just outside the office, an ADA compliant restroom has been added. Painted in #CardinalPride red, this restroom will provide students and staff with special needs access to an ADA compliant restroom. Also throughout the building, ADA compliant doors have been added to several classrooms to ensure that students and staff with mobility challenges can safely navigate through these spaces.

And We're Off

May 3, 2019 - Work has begun at SRMS to prepare for the installation of the modular classrooms that will be used during construction. Electrical work for the new SRMS has also been completed.
