Flyers Library Mission Statement
In beTWEEN Book Club
April 27th Book Club-Flunked by Jen Calonita
Gilly wouldn't call herself wicked, exactly. But when you have five little brothers and sisters and live in a run-down boot, you have to get creative to make ends meet. Gilly's a pretty good thief (if she does say so herself). Until she gets caught.
Gilly's sentenced to three months at Fairy Tale Reform School where all of the teachers are former (super-scary) villains like the Big Bad Wolf, the Evil Queen, and Cinderella's Wicked Stepmother. Harsh. But when she meets fellow students Jax and Kayla, she learns there's more to this school than its heroic mission.
There's a battle brewing and Gilly has to wonder...just how good these bad guys really are?

The day also reminds the public that library workers serve as community compasses that lead users to endless opportunities for engagement, enrichment, and development.

National Librarian Appreciation Day-April 16th, 2021
An Interview with Mrs. Colwell
19 years
*How long have you been a school librarian?
4 years (2 elementary, 2 middle school)
*What type of degree do you need to become a librarian?
One must hold a Texas teaching degree as well as a Masters Degree in Library Science to be a school librarian.
*What is your favorite part of being a librarian?
I love when a student who normally does not care to read finds a book and gets excited!
*You just check out books all day, right??
Actually-NO! Checking out books is actually a small part of my day, especially this year. I do help students find books they may be interest in, but I serve as the campus technology contact for students, staff, and parents. I also serve as the campus textbook coordinator, I maintain the library collection by ordering new books, holding library fundraisers, sponsor book club, collaborate with teachers, continue learning so I can help students and staff (especially technology!), and my FAVORITE part-TEACH students!
*Have you read all the books in the library?
Ha! No way. I wish I had that much time, but I do try to keep up with new books and topics kids are interesting in. I love to use Goodreads as a way to track the books I want to read, as well as the books I have read. It's really cool at the end of the year to see how many books you've actually read!

Deaf teen Maya moves across the country and must attend a hearing school for the first time. As if that wasn’t hard enough, she also has to adjust to the hearing culture, which she finds frustrating—and also surprising when some classmates, including Beau Watson, take time to learn ASL. As Maya looks past graduation and focuses on her future dreams, nothing, not even an unexpected romance, will derail her pursuits. But when people in her life—deaf and hearing alike—ask her to question parts of her deaf identity, Maya stands proudly, never giving in to the idea that her deafness is a disadvantage. (Goodreads)
