Bienvenidos!

The Student Success Initiative (SSI) grade advancement requirements apply to enrolled grades 5 and 8 students who take the STAAR reading and mathematics tests at grades 5 and 8. It was enacted by the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999 and modified by the 81st Texas Legislature in 2009.
As specified by these requirements, a student may advance to the next grade level only by passing these tests or by unanimous decision of his or her grade placement committee that the student is likely to perform at grade level after additional instruction.
The goal of the SSI is to ensure that all students receive the instruction and support they need to be academically successful in reading and mathematics. This effort depends greatly on schools, parents, and community members working in partnership to meet individual student needs.
A number of materials have been developed to help schools implement the SSI grade advancement requirements. These materials are available at this website in a format that facilitates downloading and editing for local use. When modifying these materials, schools should be careful to include all the components required by the grade advancement law and commissioner’s rules.

Robotics
Teachers:
Anyone interested in sponsoring a Robotics team for Taylor??
Robotics: The FIRST LEGO League and FIRST LEGO League Jr sign ups are now open. Students may sign up to play on a team at the following link: bit.ly/bisdfll-flljr. Parents may obtain additional information at legoleague@bisdmail.net or by calling 817-245-1133. Please share this information in your campus newsletters.
As always, the Department of Academic Innovation will pay for equipment for all FLL and FLL Jr teams and the FLL registration fees via grants. Campuses with FLL Jr teams are asked to pay the $25 FLL Jr registration fee for their team to participate in one of the annual Expos.
In addition, all participating campuses will need to identify a Teacher Sponsor who will serve as the team room facilitator (providing the FLL/FLL Jr team a meeting location and equipment storage area). Although teams are primarily coached by parents, teacher sponsors are most welcome to serve as coach/mentors! Finally, campuses are responsible for team t-shirts for team members and the two coach mentors.

Student Permissions
Campuses must check permissions regularly so that any picture taken in the classroom and shared on social media is approved. PEIMS clerks know how to run the report to check permissions. (If they have any questions, direct them to ext. 1009.)
District must be marked “Yes” in order for pictures to be shared on social channels. Teachers should be prepared to identify students without approved permissions. Visits from employees at admin will occur regularly throughout the year. We don’t want permissions to be a disruption to the visit, so administrators will rely on the campuses to ensure they’re taking pictures with students who are approved, as they will not know.
Digital Citizenship
As a reminder, new state legislation requires digital citizenship to be a part of Burleson ISD curriculum. The Learning Technologies department has created a website that houses digital citizenship lessons by monthly topics. Principals and teachers may view the lessons and resources here. LT Coaches are available to answer any questions you may have.
