Ground Breaking Ceremony

Thank you to all who attended the Ground Breaking Ceremony on Tuesday afternoon, April 23. The excitement is building in the Mounds View School District and we can't wait for the construction to begin. Thank you for your support!

Choir Concert

Join us for our Spring Choir Concert on Thursday evening, May 2. The times for the actual concerts are below:

6th Grade - 6:00 p.m.

7th/8th Grade & Girls Ensemble - 7:15 p.m.

Sixth grade should arrive at Edgewood no later than 5:45 p.m. and meet in the Choir Room. Seventh and eighth grade should arrive no later than 6:55 p.m. Seventh grade should meet in the Choir Room and eighth grade/Girls Ensemble that are not in Choir should meet in the cafeteria.

Enjoy some Culver's Custard after the concerts in the Cafeteria. Proceeds from the Culver's fundraiser will support the Snack Pack program at Edgewood.

We hope to see you there!

Spring BOGO Book Fair

The Scholastic BOGO Book Fair is almost here! Did you know that reading just FOUR books this summer helps eliminate the summer slide for reading that often happens? Your kids can get a head start and get half (or all!) of those needed books at our book fair and get them for a good deal, too!

Scholastic has a new and very safe way to send money with your kids for the book fair. Check out all the fair information here as well as access the eWallet account.

ATTENTION PARENTS: Edgewood Middle School is offering the EduKit program as a convenient option for busy families to order school supplies for the 2019/2020 year. More information can be found here. Everything your student needs for the school year comes packaged in one convenient box, customized to your teacher’s requests! Orders can ONLY BE PURCHASED ONLINE here.

Your student's order will be available for pick-up at the Back-to-School Orientation on Friday, August 23, and the Back-to-School Picnic on Monday, August 26.

Extended ordering is available from June 13 - July 31 for an additional $20 fee and will be delivered to your home shortly before school begins.

Staff Appreciation Breakfast - Food/Raffle Donations Needed

Let's show our AMAZING Edgewood staff some love with a delicious breakfast on Tuesday, April 30. Please bring your items to the school office either the day before (Monday, April 29) if they are non-perishable items or by 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday for warm or refrigerated items. EPAT will be providing cheese omelettes as a warm breakfast food. Please sign up here if you can help.

Youth Activities

Before- and after-school activities are offered by the District's Community Education department.

Registration is open for Youth Activities summer programs. Camp & activity registration is limited, so register early for the best availability.

Get ready for registration with these quick and easy tips.

  1. Review the most up-to-date summer catalog and circle (or make a list of) the programs of interest. Then, use the activity codes to quickly find your camps and activities online.
  2. Registration online will be the quickest and easiest way to register for camps and activities. Click here to log on to the online registration system before Friday to create an account or to ensure you know the username and password for your existing account. Additionally, update account details including mailing address, email addresses, phone numbers, etc.
  3. Once your registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email.

Change to Girls' Tennis Schedule

Due to the low enrollment this spring at Edgewood for girls' tennis, we decided to combine tennis practice with the boys' tennis group effective Wednesday, April 24. The tennis practice schedule at Edgewood will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. The competition schedule will remain the same, the girls will continue to compete with the other schools on Thursdays. When the boys have matches on Wednesdays, there will be no girls' tennis practice. The revised schedule can be found here. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and for the short notice regarding this change; however, we felt this was a better option than canceling the tennis activity for the girls. Change to Flag Football Schedule

Due to Chippewa not having enough students for a flag football team, we've had to make a change to the Flag Football schedule. We will continue to offer three games which will be played at either Edgewood or Highview. An updated schedule can be found here. It is also posted on our Community Ed middle school page. NE Regional Chess Tournament

Attention All Chess Players of ISD 621, ISD 623, ISD 282:

The end of the year NE Regional Chess Tournament Day is Here! Join us on Saturday, April 27, from 9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at Highview Middle School. All chess players K to 12th grade can compete. There are invitational and open sections for elementary and secondary players.

New this year - sections also based on experience levels; beginner, intermediate, & invitational.

Girls Expo

Join Community Partners in Youth (CPY) for their first annual Girls Expo on Tuesday, April 30, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This event is open to all 4-8th grade girls and will be a FREE fun-filled evening of connecting youth girls with career-minded women to prepare them for their future. Enjoy a meal, activities, music, and more - all while helping the next generation grow interest in a career path or life journey and make connections with mentors. Academic Excellence

The Academic Excellence Breakfast for 6th graders will be on Wednesday morning, May 1, and for 7th graders on Thursday morning, May 2. Both breakfasts will be held from 7:00-7:30 a.m. The 8th graders will be honored at our Academic Excellence Ceremony on Thursday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.66-4.0 for the first three quarters are eligible for the Academic Excellence Award. Letters were sent home Friday, April 19, to families of students who qualified for the award.

7th Grade Class Field Trip

Just a reminder that the 7th Grade Class will be going to see the production of The Diary of Anne Frank at Park Square Theatre in St. Paul on Thursday, May 2. We will leave Edgewood at 9:00 a.m. and return at approximately 1:00 p.m. Students will eat a late lunch in the cafeteria when they return.There is NO COST to students for this trip; however, there will be concessions during intermission if students would like to purchase a treat.

Summer Band

Summer Band Incoming! Students currently enrolled in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to participate in the District 621 Summer Band program. The dates are July 8-August 1, Mondays-Thursdays. Rehearsals are 45 minutes and they are scheduled at various locations across the district, offering both afternoon and evening options. Registration materials will be shared with families soon. Registration is also open now on the summer band website. Students should sign up for Advanced Middle School Band. Click here to access more details on the District 621 Summer Band website.

Summer Orchestra

Mark your calendars! Students who are currently enrolled in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in the District 621 Summer Orchestra program. The dates are July 8-August 1, Mondays-Thursdays. Classes are 50 minutes and they are scheduled at various locations across the district, starting as early as 7:00 a.m. or as late as 7:00 p.m. Registration materials will be shared with families soon.

There is also a middle school camp available for students entering grades 7-8 in 2019-2020.

KnightKrawler Robotics is competing at FIRST Champs in Detroit, MI. Qualification matches go through Friday, April 26, and finals will take place beginning Saturday morning, April 27. Cheer on KnightKrawler by watching online here. Let me hear you holler...KnightKrawler!

IHS Drama Presents "The Government Inspector"

The Irondale Drama Department is busy with rehearsals for the Spring Play. Witty, smart and wildly satirical, The Government Inspector exposes the corruption of a provincial town with biting hilarity. When the locals in a small town in Russia learn that an undercover government inspector is coming for a surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the village spiraling into a world of panic and greed. Our cast and crew invite you to come laugh out loud at one of their performances in April. Performances are:

Softball Youth Night

Please join the Irondale High School Softball team for Youth Night on Monday, April 29, at 4:30 p.m. at Irondale High School. Wear your Knights apparel for a free DQ treat and stay after the game to meet the players and get autographs on a team picture.

Middle School Registration/Consent Form

Seventh & eighth grade athletes that wish to participate on a high school team will also register online. Before you begin your online registration, approval must be obtained from the middle school principal or dean, the high school activities director and coach. In addition, signatures from both student & parent/guardian are also required. Please complete the following consent form and deliver to the high school activities office before you begin the online registration:

Community Program Offerings

In addition to the youth programs and enrichment opportunities available through the District's Community Ed Department, a number of activities, camps and youth programs are hosted by area cities, local businesses, community organizations and school PTA groups. Celebrate Success Event

The Special Education Parent and Professional Advisory Council presents “Celebrate Success 2019”!

Celebrate Success is an annual event where a panel of past and present students, who have received special education services, share their post-secondary plans and aspirations and experiences in K - 12 education.

The event will take place on Thursday, April 25, at the Mounds View District Center Board Room

Kirk Cousins Football Camp

Kirk Cousins is running his first ever middle school camp this summer in Minnesota! Kirk has designed his camp to be about building character and having fun while enjoying the game of football. The camp is for middle school boys entering 6-8th grade in the fall of 2019 and is open to all levels of experience. The camp will be held at St Thomas University on June 14 & 15. 24-Hour Attendance Line

Do you need to call in a sick child or relay an absence? You can call our 24-hour attendance line at 651-621-6601 and leave the information on our automated system. It saves both you and the attendance office time!

New Hat/Hood Policy

After much thought and many conversations with both students and staff, we have decided to change our hat and hood policy here at EW. Please review the new hat/hood policy effective March 4. This information has been shared with students.

EW hats/hoods expectations:

  • Hoods must be worn appropriately. This means that your face must be seen (no cinching of the hood).

  • Hats may be worn provided they are not distracting or create a disruption. Examples of appropriate hats include baseball caps, winter caps, beanies, durags, wraps & scarves.

  • Hats/hoods that depict violence, drugs, and sex are not allowed.

  • Hats/hoods cannot disrupt the learning environment or pose any hazard to anyone’s health or safety.

  • Please keep hands to yourself - do not grab hats off of other students' heads.

  • Items affiliated with gangs or gang activities are not allowed (e.g. paisley bandanas.)

  • The NO headphones/earbuds and cell phone policies remain the same. These items are NOT allowed in class unless directed by the teacher, and used with Chromebooks only.

  • The dress code policy is subject to change as per administration. Check in student services for an updated dress code policy.

The goal is to provide a safe, welcoming school for all students. We want students to be comfortable at school with their choice of dress. Remember, learning is our priority. If at anytime, the staff member determines that your hat/hood is disruptive to the learning environment, you may be asked to remove it or be referred to student services. We want students to make good decisions about dress and be ready to learn every day.
